This is just one VERY SWEET example of what can be done with a CVPI. I'm looking at a white 2005 CVPI out of Iowa with 97K on the clock for only $3K. The XJ's are at least 4 years older, twice as many miles, and much worse shape, going for at least $1500 more... So it looks like I'll be driving one of these... but who knows?

Thats sexy, I Dont know half of what those mods are but the other half that I do know of, I like.

Sorry if my sentence is not grammatically correct Ron.

Lol. Relax! I'm not a grammar Nazi! It is sexy. What mods do you not understand?

The 5.4L swap in this car is becoming more common, but more often people looking to really build these cars just swap in a DOHC Mustang 4.6 with forced air and junk. Really easy. Personally, I think the front is ugly with the crap sticking out of the hood. There are cowl induction hoods that could cover it way better.

I'm trying to buy one of these next summers. I love these cars, a few bolt on parts and your already at 500hp. I'd take one of these over an import any day of the week

I've owned a 98 CVPI, or P71 as they can be referred to also. It was simply the best car I've owned. Really! So easy to work on and maintain, tons of room, not slow, and can be made to look quite nice. Add to that there are literally TONS of aftermarket and mod capabilities, I'm surprised they're not more popular.

I'm looking at 2 different cars right now:

1 2K5 w/97K miles for $3K
1 2K3 for a grand! Still waiting for the call back on this one to see hoe many miles, etc.

I've learned of 3 places that recondition these cars. They go over them with a fine-toothed comb and replace EVERYTHING that needs to be and always put new tires:

Wisconsin: www.usedcopcars.com
Illinois: www.chicagomotors.com
Michigan: No website yet, but they deal by phone and in person.

Just because all of these places are in the north does not mean their cars come from the same area, in fact, the MI company emphatically states NONE of their cars come from Detroit! lol

The 2003/5 I'm eyeballing are white. There are a few black ones for sale in MI and WI, but they are 2004's and more expensive.

I'm going to run back to the other computer and print that photo and see if we can work with that.

What year? color? I know much more about the CVPI than I do the Caprice.

If you are not going to buy that car? can you get the info to me in a PM? I REALLY need a car to get to work.

I'll call him, but I was really hoping for a 2003 or newer. They changed rack and pinion, and the pre-03's have intake manifold issues. Also some suspension issues. You can't really use many Mustang rims on a pre-03 without adapters.

I like the color though. He'd have to come down on price, seeing as 04-06's can be had for under $4K

Well, if it's a true DC car, I'd have to steam clean the stains off the back seat! lol

S.O.T.I.
11-03-2009, 11:49 AM
I called about that DC car just now. It's sold, but he says he'll have another exactly the same, 2002, 60-70K miles and black for around the same price on Friday or Monday. It's only a 10 hour drive from here to DC, just like going back home to MI.

But I REALLY want a 2003!

jcollins1888
11-03-2009, 12:16 PM
thats sucks...those look like ex-governement cars and not ex-cops cars so at least theyre not nearly as abused even if it isnt an 03

He says he rarely gets those. The next one he's getting is undercover, so still no holes to deal with...

S.O.T.I.
11-03-2009, 12:44 PM
Oh. I forgot to mention I found a white 2003 with 117k miles in pristine condition. It's from a small northern MI municipality, and the guy will sell it to me for $1995! Has a folder full of maintenance.

I think that's a hell of a deal. Now I just need to find $1995! lol

When I do get into a CVPI, this might be the first mod:

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n344/vessel_photo/marauderhood3.jpg

What do you guys think? It's fiberglass, and enclosed with mesh(from the driver's view)

Chaoul1
11-03-2009, 07:09 PM
Hey man once you get it. Get started with it :). That would look sick. Do the Marauder parts just bolt right up to the body?

Hoods, deck lids, spoilers, doors, rear sheet metal and tail lights are all direct swaps. there is some debate on the fenders, header panel, grill and front light assemblies.

nifty97z
11-03-2009, 07:27 PM
It would be bada$$ if you could do a full frontend swap from a Marauder!!

S.O.T.I.
11-03-2009, 07:48 PM
It would be bada$$ if you could do a full frontend swap from a Marauder!!

That's the intention. The basic look could be had with just the bumper wrap. I'd like to have the black-housed headlights and side markers too, and that might involve swapping out the header panel.

I've found a source of Marauder parts online. Front bumpers for about $245, headlights and side markers for about $100/side total.

That, the fiberglass cowl hood, and a Marauder rear spoiler is about all I would do for body mods. Wheels would be some Bullit Mustang replicas or very subtle after-market 5-spoke 18's. Katzkin leather for the interior and call it a day.

PLEEEASE stay away from the over-used, plain-jane, Mustang Bullits. Please! ;)

PLEEEASE stay away from the over-used, plain-jane, Mustang Bullits. Please! ;)

Hahaha, yeah, they are on just about every other CVPI, huh? I have a few different rims in mind. My biggest problem is I don't like most after-market blingy type rims. To look good to me, they have to look like something that could have come from the factory or concept at the very least.

S.O.T.I.
11-03-2009, 09:14 PM
Rim goodness on this page:
http://www.americanmuscle.com/replicawheels.html?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=mustang%20replica%20wheels&utm_content=mustang%20replica%20wheels&utm_campaign=YSM%2B-%2BS%2B-%2BWheels%2FTires&OVRAW=mustang%20replica%20wheels&OVKEY=mustang%20replica%20wheels&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=30469091522&OVKWID=140393469022

Most of these should fit a 2003 or newer CVPI. I'll post pics later of the very few after market rims I like.

Possible rims for my CVPI once I get it:

These Momos look close to the stock Marauder rims,
http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n344/vessel_photo/VT3157.jpg

And these are TSW's,
http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n344/vessel_photo/tswvortex.jpg
I'm a big fan of the TSW line and it would be easier to list the ones I wouldn't use!

Maybe something like these (but in an 18 and also a wider rim) :

http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20603/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=5

I've always liked the Lightening rims:

http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20712/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=8

http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20731/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=9

Or these from the 1st HD F-150s (and powdercoat them) :

http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20724/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=9

These would be MY choice for the CV:

front: http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20926/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=14

rear: http://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/products/search/20927/?make=149&year=&model=&gclid=CKWP7pXa8J0CFSZdagodUSmiLg&page=14

And the best part is these are ALL STOCK Ford rims!!!

trust me, in this economy, you really want to stop into a few pawn shops! I am a big DIY'fer, and as soon as I know I've cinched this job, I'll be picking up some mighty nice tools from the local pawn shops. I saw a craftsmen air-powered braid/finishing nailer that usually retails at 200+ for 49.95 there!

im gonna do my research on the p71s and the 9c1s. I'm not a big chevy guy but something tells me that Driving a 4door sedan like the capric/impala, powered buy a vetter motor (LS1 in Caprice and i think LS6 in the Impala) just screams FFFUUUNNN and SLEEEEEPER. I am not a huge Ford fan. If I had to be brand-labeled, I'd have to say I was a Chevy guy. That being said, I much prefer the Ford P71. If you go with the Caprice classic cop car or the civilian version Impala SS, and want the rear-wheel drive, you are limited to 1996 and previous years. That's already 13 years old. The newer versions of those cars are pretty much all FWD v-6's. The RWD ones? Talk about a land yacht! Too big in my opinion. Another big plus on the Ford side, the Panther platform includes the Crown Victoria, The Mercury Grand Marquis and Marauder, and the Lincoln Town Car, and is(as far as I know) the only full frame modern passenger car. This is way more stable than partial frame/unibody construction. There is no comparison, to me that is. I think the Ford P71 beats the Caprice/Impala hands-down.

Sorry but the LSx platform was not out yet. The late 90s Caprices and Imps were LT1 & LT4 motors  Conversions are out there though. And the LT4 is not just in the Impala; they are in the Caprices as well. (And yes, the LTs are Vette motors!)

Old Trooper Mustnag were the poo back in the mid to late 90's. We could buy them for $3K and mod them to hell and back. My old 93 LX 5.0 Trooper car was one of my favorites. I even left the spot light on it. I used to scare the heck out of people on the highway. They'd come flying up on me then slam on the brakes. I guess they couldn't see the big ass 5" Autometer Tach on the dash. HAHA! I must have sprayed 250 bottles of NOS through that thing. Sold it to a buddy, he drove it for a year, sold it for drugs, then it got stolen and stripped and burned. Ahhhhh.... RIP baby boy!
