Most rally cars are, but he might have modded this one to rear only.

I know the lesser models of the GTR were RWD and it is possible to add 4WD since the old skylines had transfer cases lol.

Yes it is mate.
Is it AWD?
No, rear drive
I know the lesser models of the GTR were RWD and it is possible to add 4WD since the old skylines had transfer cases lol.
It's a GTS-t, not a GTR. I decided to go with rear drive as it's alot lighter than a GTR with 4wd. Lots cheaper to campaign as well. A GTS-t has a 2.0L engine as opposed to the GTR's 2.6 litre. Power to weight works out about the same :)
In fact, we were quicker on every rally stage in this car than we were in the 600HP R34 GTR N1 we used last year. Pretty amazing little car really!

Next race? Hmmmm, maybe October, funds depending. I'll do a bunch of circuit racing between now and then though, just to keep my eye in :)

I must have missed that. Gts-t? Not too much chatter about those in the states. Anytime we hear "Skyline" it's about a GTR AWD.

www.motorex.net (http://www.motorex.net) has been importing perfectly legal Skylines since the late 90's!

No doubt GTR is the hero car.
I've owned or raced every version of Skyline (well, most), and made an informed decision to roll with this GTS-t for the next few years racing.

i know about them, I'm just generally speaking. they are the only one's and that make them legal for california. They have a couple place in the east coast, but good luck trying to get it cert in Cali w/ all these F'd up regulations.

There are plenty of car importers out there, and CA's auto regulations screw up EVERYONE, not just imported cars. C.A.R.B. alone is a good enough reason to not live in Cali.

Hmmmm Scotty, as I said mate, I made the decision ;) The decision proved correct where I said above that the little GTS is/was quicker than the GTR on every comparable rally stage. Just goes to show horsepower aint everything huh.
Of course it's alot easier on the wallet running a GTS, I could throw this car at the trees hard and not be too upset, doing the same in a GTR would cause some pain, mainly because parts are more expensive.
FYI, the initial purchase cost difference between a GTS and GTR isn't great these days, good GTR's can be had for under 20k now, where you'll still pay 12 to 18k for a good GTS.

Only watched the crash one so far... was that just horrible under steer or was your approach speed too high?
Kinda funny, "do I just go over it" ... "yeah" :D
Nice driving on the second vid! Can't believe you caught that r33.

Thanks fellas, the navigator is Tim, met him a couple of years ago, and he's morphed into a superb nav, balls of steel he has, never doubts me, he's awesome :)
And Matt, the approach was just way too fast mate, I misheard the call.
New wheels yesterday, forged 18x9 off a R34 GTR. They juuuuust fit :) I wanted to fit this size on because I can get free race tyres in 265/35/18 :D

Marlin

No mate, Go-Pro is a hunk of shit. I have one but don't even bother using it anymore.
This was filmed using a POV1, though we weren't using our usual self powered microphone so the sound leaves a little to be desired.

I played it on full HD, it's a little shaky at times but smooth overall ... I liked it ... so what's the new build going to be?
Marlin
10-03-2010, 05:29 PM
Thanks :)
New build is nothing crazy, still need a relatively small turbo to comply with the rules, but it will have a few subtle upgrades, mainly oil control stuff and some stronger internals..... cams to.
And I think I'm going to make the switch to run it on E85 fuel..... will find another 80hp there :)

Not true.... there are 3 of them in town here. Here's a pic of one of them. He comes up to my buddies shop all the time. He's going to 600rwhp he says. Here's some pics of his. Then there's also a White one and a Black one.

Whatever.... the point is.... there are plenty of them over here in the states. Just maybe not in your area. They can be brought over, but you have to be creative or in the military to get them registered, but it does happen.

Heaps and heaps are owned by US military stationed in Australia, I'd like to think many go home with the troops :)

That's NOT the point. They cannot LEGALLY be brought into the states. Look it up. That car is specifically mentioned in the US customs inquiry page(or it used to be, haven't checked in a while). It is most definitely "creative paperwork" that has allowed the few in the US to be licensed.

^^^what he said...i read it on ebay a few months back, certain ones cannot be legally registered in the states, unless its a special type of registration, and it gets used for like 1000 miles a year (thats what ebay said) im gonna try to find the link...
