Also can you order the auto lift gate without the heated steering wheel? (luxury pack)

Every other day for a year, it has started up immediately. It had an oil change at the dealer two weeks ago and they looked things over, finding e.g. a dirty air filter that we replaced.

I'll let it sit for a day and then I expect it will start up. Is there any point then in taking it in for service?

Thought I'd pass this along for everyone's enjoyment. I was slowing down for a stoplight this morning, and right at the moment the tranny downshifted I heard a loud BANG. Loudest noise I've ever heard come out from under a vehicle. I thought I had just dropped my tranny on the road. Pulled over and the tranny clunked hard when I shifted out of Drive. Checked things out a little underneath, drove off cautiously, and starting hearing a thumping noise that correlated with speed. Drove straight to the dealer and dropped it off. Dealer just called and said they found a bolt inside the front differential. They said it was an "external" bolt that held the diff together and they have no idea how it got in there, but it could have been in there since the Jeep left the assembly line. (My Jeep is 1 year old with 18K miles). The bolt got wedged in the diff gears and did a fair bit of damage, so I'm getting a new diff. Service manager said everyone in the shop was standing around looking at this wondering WTH happened. He sent me the attached pic...

I've got a 2008 Grand Cherokee w/48k miles. Recently I was driving about 30mph and the car would not automatically shift. It felt like it was stuck between 3rd and 4th gear and just sputtered. Also I am unable to manually shift when that happens. The only way to fix this is to stop the car and restart it.

Ever since my car has driven diffrently. Almost as if im missing the 1st gear. When manually shifting 1st feels like 2nd, 2nd like 3rd etc.... It also doesnt always automatically shift to a lower gear when slowing at a stop light like it use to. :(

Anyone had or heard of this problem? Would love to figure out before taking it to Jeep.

Thanks

Hi Fellas,

New to this particular board but been on a different one for about a year now daily. Ive asked similar questions on there but its always good to get some feedback from an entirely different group.

I would really like to do my brakes over. I have the black brembos and want to paint them either red or yellow (buddy of mine just did yellow and they look awesome). While i am in there i would like to switch out the rotors for something with an awesome look. Drilled, slotted, and big. The more exotic looking the better.

Is this something I can do with a jack, proper caliber paint, and tire iron? or should I leave this up to some pros. I have basic knowledge of tools and all that but ny no means am I a gear head. Wanna be gear head yes though :-)

What do you guys suggest for rotors? I dont really need high performance brakes. just want the look. What would be the largest suggested size?

Also how do you guys keep the brembo decal when you paint. Do you tape it off or paint over it and apply a new logo when dry?

Thanks all

On routes where there never before were any dropouts, our 730N has been having the occasional one-second or so dropout with Sirius (all channels) over the past ten days or so. There are any number of possible causes, including Sirius' satellites, sunspots and so on. But of course another possibility is some issue with this particular radio, antenna or connection.

Those with the 4.7L and hydraulic cooling fan know there are a few problems with the power steering system. The first problem was the original pressure hose typically starts leaking at the pump fitting. This is easily fixed with the redesigned hoses available. The second problem is inevitably the pump will wear out, especially if like me you ran with the hose leaking for a while and weren't diligent enough at topping off the fluid.

To replace the pump you will need:

- new/reman power steering pump (I got one that included the reservoir, you can save a few bucks getting just the pump but mine looked like it was starting to split in the back).

- new pulley (you could use a puller to reuse the old one, but mine had a chip in it, and for $12 why not?)

- 1 or 2 new small hose clamps

- 1 quart of PS fluid (Mopar 5931 equivalent, which after checking a few labels most parts stores carry a fluid that is)

For tools I believe it was a 1/2 inch deep socket that I used to pull the bolts holding the pump in place, a wrench to rotate the belt tensioner, a 21mm wrench for the pressure hose fitting, and a pliers to remove the hose clamps. Also, a screwdriver or appropriate socket to tighten your new hose clamps.

I recommend using a press to press the pulley onto the pump, mine came with a bolt/nut/washer "tool" that I was able to press it on with, but it was a pain in the ass. Doable, but if you have access to a press (I forgot I could have asked the shop guys at work to do it) it will be much easier.

Here are the steps I took to swap out the pumps:

1. Remove the drive belt, set aside. This would be a good time to inspect it and replace if it is old or cracking.

2. Remove the pressure hose from the pump. Once it was out I tipped it down to drain some of the fluid out of it, then wrapped a rag over the end and bent it out of the way.

3. Loosen and remove the 3 bolts holding the pump to the engine. I used a 1/2" deep socket, my short socket with extension was too long and hit the fan shroud.

4. Once the pump is loose, I turned it on its side to remove the 2 return lines (one from the fan, one from the gear/cooler). I found one of them had a "constant tension" style band clamp on it, the other had a crimp on single use clamp, so I carefully pried that loose, and then went to the parts store for a new worm drive band clamp. The hoses may need some convincing to come off, but be careful not to damage them.

5. I now found that there wasn't much room to remove the old pump, so I took off the upper radiator hose and was able to get it out that way. I then grabbed the new pump and slid it back in the opposite way I pulled out the old one.

6. Reattach the return hoses. They slid right on, then I just had to tighten up the hose clamps to hold them in place.

7. Next I bolted the pump back to the engine. I started each one by hand to make sure they went in right, and then tightened them up good with the ratchet.

8. Next I reattached the pressure hose. Make sure you have an o-ring on the end of it, my pump came with a new one.

9. I then put the cap on and reattached the radiator hose. Since I didn't lose much coolant (not even down in the radiator) I just pulled the bleed plug and topped it off. No gurgling noises, everything is good there.

10. Fill 'er up! It took 1 16 oz. bottle to fill up the reservoir, and I spun the pump by hand a bit to hopefully prime it. Then I re installed the drive belt.

11. Start your engines! It squealed a bit at first when I started as it worked the air out, but then quieted down. I turned the wheel back and forth to work the air out and topped off the fluid as needed.

12. Wipe off the old pump and pack it in the box for the core return. (If you bought a reman pump).

Wow, I didn't even realize how bad the pump was getting until I drove it around with the new pump. Its super quiet and smooth now at idle like going in and out of a parking space, and it takes less effort to turn overall. $120 at Advance Auto was well spent for the improvement, especially before cold weather sets in again and the condition gets worse. <- thats for your Dave! :D :slapfight:

Wow that got kinda long winded, but its really not that tough a job to do. Took me a little over 2 hours including muscling the pulley onto the new pump. Sorry there's no pics, but I forgot and it wasn't that interesting of a job lol.

Sorry to bother you folks, but bought a showroom new set of SRT wheels and tires (Pirelli Scorpion Verde) for a 2012 Overland V8 (hope they fit :D), and SRT manual doesn't have wheel torque value because tires are runflats. It also doesn't say anything about tire pressures. I need an owner with the all-season Scorpion Verdes to look at this door label please. And as far as wheel lugnut torque, maybe a service manual? Local dealership wasn't any help, hence relying on this fine forum.

As a reference, the Overland calls for 110 ft/lbs of torque for the wheel nuts, which is the highest I've seen on aluminum wheels. Since the SRT wheels are forged (stronger), it might be the same, but rather be safe and ask. Tire pressure is 36 all around, so it should be close. Maybe 35, due to the lower profile? Thanks a million in advance for your help folks.

And I'd have an SRT in the garage now, but dealership owner decided to keep that truck after waiting months for it, so ended up in an Overland 5.7L (obviously bought at a different dealership :D). Thanks gang.

Hey everyone, Just wanted opinions on this Jeep that I'm seriously considering on buying. I currently drive a '92 Laredo, love it to death and has been great to me, but now almost being 22 years old and going to be a senior in college, it's time to upgrade (I want airbags and A/C!!! haha). We are hopefully going to look at it this weekend and today i'm going to see what kind of loan I can take out for it (poor college kid lol)

Now to the important stuff. 2006 Jeep GC Laredo, ~84,000 miles, asking $11,500 (said he'd take off $500 for tires).

First, here's the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_1226wt_1101

Second, from the pics, the tires are obviously bald, so he is taking $500 off the price. It sucks that he doesn't have more pics, but from the ones provided, it does look like it's in good shape and pretty clean.

A buddy at a dealership is checking the Carfax as I type this and I will update the thread when he gets back to me.

I found a way to find the exact window sticker for this Jeep when it was on the lot, and here it is. Got some pretty good custom add-ons it seems.

http://www.jeep.com/hostc/getWindowS...HR48N46C294987

Black is the color I want, it's a 4.7, sunroof, leather seats, Aux input, etc. There's nothing that I initially wanted on my new Jeep that this one doesn't have. I've wanted a new Jeep since I left for college, 3 years ago, and have researched ever since.

I'm thinking about offering $10,500 and see what he says. If he says no, then if everything checks out, i'd do the $11,000.

What does everyone think? I appreciate ALL opinions. And what type of things specifically should I check out when looking/driving it?

Thank you everyone!

- Joseph

BUT!! ive got two sets of HID's on the way. me and 3 other people from work ordered them all together to cut down on shipping costs (that isnt cheap!)

ive got plain black factory housings i will be putting my HID's in. I will get Gen III Projectors (http://tinyurl.com/6qnj2qg) but in the mean time, should i take out the metal reflector piece in front of the low beam bulb? or leave it?

also, i got my HID's from DDM Tuning. I purchased 2 6000K kits. one for lows, one for fogs. however, i also purchases mounting brackets and an error code eliminator. should i have gotten two relay harnesses also? i didnt think about that until it was already ordered. (and i got LED bulbs for my eagle eyes. red for turn, white reverse. NO AMBER!!)
