Question XX - 2011 Quadra-Drive II

The 2011 Quadra-Drive II system is advertized on Jeep.com as having an ELSD on both the rear and front axles. Also, the 2011 dealer on-line parts manual lists a part# (68060207AA) for a 2011 front ELSD. Yet, current dealer documents and other on-line sources show only a rear ELSD for the 2011 Quadra-Drive II system. No front differential of any kind is mentioned.
  1. Is information about the front axle “suppressed” because of an impending configuration change?

  2. What front differential is currently being delivered with the 2011 Quadra-Drive II system? Will that be permanent for the 2011 model year?

  3. Is the 2011 rear ELSD different from the 2010 unit? If so, what type is it (magnetic, hydraulic or pneumatic), and who makes it?

  4. Is there any configuration change planned for the 2011 Quadra-Drive II system?
Question YY – Technical Contact

It is not possible for the average Jeep owner to get technical questions answered authoritatively through either dealers or Chrysler/Jeep Customer Assistance. Given the large membership of JeepGarage, would Chrysler provide a direct technical contact in Jeep Engineering, to whom a management approved single member of JeepGarage could submit pre-screened questions?

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

I have developed a good relationship with Phil Jansen(chief 2011 engineer) and Nick Cappa(ChryCo product/eng PR) So I may be able to send them questions from time to time. We are hoping and Mr Jansen seems to be very open to quarterly engineers chats. Lets cross our fingers!

What's the official word on "Hemi tick"? Is HEMI engine in WK2 any different in that respect?

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

Why were the first bunch of overlands built without quadra lift?

Have they figured out a sure fire fix for the shudder problem?

Can they give us any details regarding the summit edition overland?

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

My questions are about the skid plates...

Approximately how much do the skid plates that come with the off-road adventure II package weigh (in total)?

Can they all be easily removed?

Are the skid plates (with the off-road adventure II package) an addition to other protective shielding under the vehicle or do the skid plates replace the protection that comes standard with the vehicle?

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

I don't know if I'll be able to make it so here's my questions:
The looks of the WK2 especially the interior is great but who made the decision on the rear? It really looks like a mini van.
With the complexity of the new suspensions, can larger tires be installed and will Mopar ever produce a lift for it?
On the WK1's will there be a recall on the starters? Way too many of them are going bad with less whan 50,000 on them.

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

I own a 99 Grand Limited 4.7 and my buddy owns a 04 Jeep Grand Limited. His air condition blower moves a lot more air (cfm's) than mine. I have heard this was an upgrade made to the 02 models. There are many of us with 99 models who would like to know what were the changes to increase the airflow out the ductwork. Thank you for your time.

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

Not sure i can make the chat but here's my question/sugestion/rant...

But before I start I want to welcome all the Jeep engineers that came on their time to answer our questions. I also want to thank Scott and the rest of the JeepGarage.org staff for putting this together.

I'm a mechanical engineer and I can not understand why the mounting of the WK headlights was designed so difficult to either remove or install. Yes it is easy if you remove the front bumper... But why go through that when a simple change at the bottom mounting location would have solved that? Remember how simple it was for the WJ platform? Just one long bolt to deal with for mounting or removing the headlight.
I just hope it's easier on the WK2 platform.

My point is why make simple things more complicated than they need to be...?
And why do some people have to pay the dealer extra hours in labor to have a headlight changed by having to remove the front bumper?
I just don't understand... My job here at work is to design as efficient as possible and keeping in mind the people that needs to make the parts, assemble the parts and service the parts.

And yes my resume is up to date in case you guys need me over there overlooking at those little things....

Is any one of you guys (Jeep engineers) going to be at IMTS-2010 in Chicago next week?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

I do not know whether I will make the chat this evening.

I have ordered a new 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland with 3.6 L engine, Quadra-Lift, and Off-Road Adventure II that is scheduled to be shipped this Friday (Sept. 10, 2010) that will replace a 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited with 4.7 L 235 HP engine, Quadra-Drive, and Up-Country Suspension. What is difference between NV-247 Transfer Case and Quadra-Track II? Why did Jeep end Quadra-Drive with gerotor pumps (a perfect but expensive system) for a system that (like everyone else) uses brakes to transfer power to a non-slipping wheel?

Re: Pre-chat engineer question thread-please read

Knowing i wont be avaliable for the chat i'll post my question and the details for what i have done.

I have a 96 grand cherokee laredo that runs for 15-20 mins the shuts off and has been doing this for about 7 months now. I have replace; crank sensor, cam sensor, distributor and cap, rotor, fuel pump and filter tore the harness apart and repaired 3 wires, replaced the TPS tightened all the loose grounds and have reset the alarm. I checked the fule pressure at the rail with a pressure gage putting out 48psi. What could be the issue cause when its runs for the 15-20 mins its like new and i would much rather fix it then get rid of it?
