Hello!

I'm new to Jeep and not sure if I'm stupid/doing something wrong or just got unlucky. I could unlock my jeep with fob and push ignition button to ACC. However any following attempt to start the engine just cranks it once, CEL shows on, blinks 10 times and system produces ding sound; CEL stays on. That's it.

When I turn it off/lock via fob _sometimes_ the strange churning sound could be heard from under the hood (I've tried to attach recording, but it doesn't stick)

It's a brand new vehicle with < 100 miles on it.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I had the same thing happen with my 2015 when new. It got towed you the dealer and was restarted there. Thankfully 2 years and 35k later the issue has not reoccurred.

I tried second fob too. I also tried remote start via smartphone (it worked nicely before). No luck. While it was being prepared to tow to dealer it did start once for few seconds and shut off again. while being put on truck small amount of water(? wth?) leaked from somewhere behind rear passenger wheel (exhaust?). I did drive in a rain for few days, almost a week ago. it was dry and sunny weather since then. Not sure what to think about it.

tsg2k2,

If the check engine light is illuminated, you will not be able to use the remote start feature. Please let me know if you need any follow up with your dealership.

Thanks for noticing me, Kori.

I understand that CEL on blocks remote start; I didn't expect it to work. It was just another attempt to rule out the problem with fob(s).

However I could use your help. My vehicle got towed to the dealer yesterday afternoon. I've got a call from mechanic asking for symptoms close to the end of business day. It was a very brief one and I was not able to explain all my findings. I tried to get the status update today but nobody called me back (as they promised)

I've also uploaded the noise from under the hood and another one from rear axle here https://gofile.io/?c=v0UCFS. Both happened few times (separately) when the vehicle looked to be completely off.

p.s. Is there an online ticket system at Jeep, accessible by customers like myself, where the status could be tracked and updates provided?

Thanks for input, xJoshxx

I'm curious why would starter or fuel pump be active while a car looks to be completely off (only the alarm dot is blinking)

p.s. They paid for towing services... for the first 10 miles (as usual, there is a fine print). I like this SUV and just want them to properly fix it.

Update; for next guy with the same issue.

Picked up my car from dealership yesterday.
Official paper statement: can't reproduce! no codes, no sounds.
Unofficially I was told that they 'updated the software', 'for unrelated issue'. When asked about the specifics they reluctantly told me that they did 'reset the computer'.
When I played back the sounds to them the response was 'hmmm, that's a weird sound'...

Anyway, 'computer reset' seems to be the same cure as above. And it looks like it helped. Let's see how it goes.

Note to self: record video too next time.

Do you have an OBDII dongle? You can buy one cheap and pull codes on your own. Obviously Jeep should/will do this for you but sometimes it is nice to have the codes yourself. Hope you get it resolved.

Update: picked up my JGC from dealer yesterday; they found one TSB related to transmission's electronics and flashed new firmware. They took it to 120 miles road test and found no issues. However the TSB description i found didn't list my error code U0402 (I followed the advice above and read the code myself via adapter). I feel like I'll be back to them soon... Another thread here suggests it's a damaged cable:
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/2015-jgc-overland-service-shifter-light-91166.html. It's an old thread but there is another 2017 JGC Trailhawk owner there with the same problem.

Another (really disappointing) update: jeep lost power, jerked and and stalled while driving! VERY scary experience! CEL was on again and there were few audible dings. Luckily it was a relatively quiet street and I was driving slowly so no accident happened, but there was a bus behind me! I tried to start it a few times: no luck. Some guy (thanks to him!) helped me to push vehicle to the side. I tried to turn it on again and... it started! and no CEL! and no codes on obd interface!

So basically I'm back to square one and I don't know what to think or to do: it looks like pulling that lever in the console between the seats (to move the car) temporary hides the problem. Service will tell me again that nothing is wrong but I'm scared to drive it now. :(((((((

and another update: service found U0100 code during their testing. quote "found loose ground g903 right side front frame". they repaired/reattached it. will keep this thread updated if this is the right fix. fingers crossed...

p.s. I wonder if the electrical schema/tech docs are publicly available.

My jeep keeps giving me more grief, guys: yesterday it failed to handle 200 miles long trip:
1. ECO mode got disabled and I was not able to re-enable it
2. after about 100 miles of highways driving high-pitch whining gears sound suddenly started; I suspect it was the transmission's 'limp' mode: sound was proportional to speed: was really loud on 65mph, was almost bearable at 40mph; we stopped for 10 min break to check it; found nothing except some vague 'burnt metal' smell; we let it to cool-down and jeep went back to normal after restart;
3. this morning after a short local trip it refused to start with a CEL on and a whole bunch of error messages:
- BRAKES blinking red,
- service shifter message (U0402, again!),
- service electronic stability control
- no bus
- lane departure disabled
- engine auto-stop/start disabled
Restart cleared most of them; I've dropped the vehicle to the dealer again; it's a 4th time in 2 months; Called Jeep Wave service line, will post if this program actually means anything; I'm sad... investigating my ways out... :(

Check your states Lemon Law or do a Google search in your area for Lemon Law attorney who will guide you through the process. Had to do it on a Tahoe. It will save you a lot of aggravation and disappointment as it sounds like you have a true lemon with no resolution in sight. Good luck.

Just to sum up this old thread:
1. Lemon Law works, but the process is very slow. Took me 1.5 years to get it resolved; It's the only effective way to make FCA stand behind it's product.
2. Decided to try my chances once more with 2018 JGC TH - hoping that bombs do not strike the same spot twice :)

p.s. dealership which serviced my vehicle went bankrupt this year.
