1 Year Anniversary, Few Issues

It's been one year since I received my Jeep and I still love it. However, I am having a few minor issues and wanted to see if the forum had any advice for me:

Rattles drive me crazy and I seem to have 3 distinct ones that come and go. There is one in the roof close to the passenger side rear door, one from the front passenger head rest, and one underneath the passenger seat.

Recently the vehicle has been making some very strange noises. It is sporadic, but the best way I can describe it is a loud moaning type sound. It seems to happen when turning or braking.

I also noticed some significant vibrations in the steering wheel at 60mph and above.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Check out this thread for your roof rattle
panoramic sunroof rattles

As for vibrations in the steering wheel above 60mph... sounds indicative of an out of balance tire/wheel. I would have your tires/wheels rotated and balanced if you have not already.

I have almost identical rattles - 17k miles, 10 months of ownership.

Re: 1 Year Anniversary, Few Issues

Just curious, were these rattles things that started after a certain amount of miles or usage? or were they there since new? Im just asking because I bought my new 2012 Overland last week and it is the most quiet and solid interior I have ever been in. Basically, im just wondering if things are gonna start loosening up on me soon. I hate rattles and my Acura TL that I just sold had a few good ones on the inside that drove me nuts!

The rattles were not present when I purchased the vehicle. I would say I started noticing them after about 9 months of ownership. Some trips you won't hear anything, other times I will be driving down a smooth highway and the rattling won't stop.

I have had mine for about a year and a half. Just like you, I hate rattles. I have about 19000 miles, no rattles whats so ever! And actually no problems either with the exception of my windshield being a magnet for rocks!! grrrr Hope this helps

Head rest rattle: may be the plastic back that houses the active head restraint. See the dealer.

Rattle under the seat: there's some electrical stuff down there. Look down there and see whats moving around, and secure it with a nylon tie.

Moaning when turning. Power steering fluid? Check the level.

Vibrations in the steering wheel- tires out of balance. Have you rotated them?

Re: 1 Year Anniversary, Few Issues

Head rest rattle: Wrap some 3M clear packaging tape around the metal posts then push them down into plastic retainers (others have also tried this). Also, put some thin foam material between the plastic retainers (at the bottom of the posts) and the leather seat. I eliminated rattle using both of these techniques.

Rattle under seat: I found electrical connectors which were possibly banging against metal. I just wrapped thin foam material around and in between any connectors that seemed to move. Again I eleminated rattle.

Good luck!

Re: 1 Year Anniversary, Few Issues

pics will not do any good. You can't really see the clear tape around the posts. Also you can't see the thin foam between the top of the plastic anchors and the leather. Sorry.
