Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

[QUOTE=2005JGC;554272]EDIT: I see that this post has been brought up from being a month old so most of this is to be disregarded, none the less much of it should be stated so Ill leave it.

Im very sorry for your troubles, I will say that what I have quoted is typically when I get a car that has had all of that replaced by an independent shop... If you have any more service work done there DEMAND that that specific tech NOT touch your vehicle, if it doesn't say on your paperwork the tech number (it should) they can look it up. This is just sad! I understand being a tech we don't get paid at all what we are worth to diagnose warranty (part of the problem, at the same time I understand if we did there would be those that abused the crap out of it and still did a crappy job). At the same time swapping coils injectors and plugs to known good cylinders ELIMINATE them and cost no one any money plus it helps narrow the possible problems. I generally make an effort to understand where the tech was coming from (being one and not being perfect myself) but there is no excuse for that blatant parts throwing and not verifying the non repair prior to returning it to you, and there is no better description of that tech than hack (well there are better words but I prefer not to say them, it is hacks like this that make all you guys hate me and that PISSES ME OFF).

I would say your probably going to be set with the new head because it is HIGHLY unlikely that is is a lack of compression due to anything in the bottom end and a new head will ensure no warpage, new head gasket and properly functioning and sealing valves... the beauty of replacing a cylinder head under warranty.

Again, sorry you have had to deal with this, and remember what I said, it was not a suggestion I am telling you, DO NOT LET THAT TECH TOUCH YOUR CAR AGAIN! Drive away from the dealer and call and speak to the service manager or owner if they try to explain that it was his "diagnosis" so its his repair to perform.

Also keep in mind that you have had multiple trips to the dealer (due to a HACK tech) but its all been for one concern, hopefully with this cylinder head you can go onto enjoying your new-to-you vehicle and not continue repeated trips to the dealer. Its crappy no matter what but one concern due to be fixed is much better than a hand full of problems that keeps you going back to the dealer (at least that is how I feel).

Good luck, keep us updated when the repair goes down![/QUO

this is excellent info!!!

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Hi guys! Sorry I have not updated yet, I have been so busy.

I still do not have the Jeep back! They say they are still waiting on a tool to fix the cam phaser and it should have been sent already but they have not received it. I really have no other details than that.

New problem! The rental that Chrysler originally agreed to provide us has been driven for approximately 38 days and they now are claiming they never agreed to provide a rental. The case manager by the name of Charles (I think this has been passed to 3 case managers?) was extremely rude and unsensitive to my issue and immediately denied any rental claim and said he would need to talk to the dealer to get more information. He refused to tell me the information he needed and basically refused anything. He says he talked to the dealer working on the Jeep and they claim that the vehicle was techically driveable but as a courtesy he would allow a 14 day rental. I literally lost it on this guy a few times. I talked to the dealer and they claim to have never said that. It is such a mess it is so unbeleivable. The dealer said she would call him for me and merge our calls so there is no question who said what or who is blaming who. I demanded upper mgmt in Chrysler customer service but I was not able to take the call 2 hrs later when she called back. I guess we shall see what happens in the next day or so!

I absolutely refuse to pay for this rental. If I had to pay for it I would not have took one to begin with and if there was only going to be 14 days allowed I would have only kept it 14 days. Heck, they even put us in a rental Jeep and heat quits working and it has to be taken to service.

I am at the end of my rope with Chrysler.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

After finally getting someone at Chrysler that actually gave a damn we got them to agree on the rental and even let us upgrade to a nicer car. They are supposed to be seeing what they can do to get the tool to the dealer so the Jeep can be fixed as quickly as possible. Regardless of the issue, my wife is so sick of the Jeep she doesnt want it anymore. We have already gave all our information and paperwork to an attorney and seem to have a case on a few different things. The dealer we bought the Jeep from is also aware of this now and they seem to be trying to work something out to buy the Jeep back from us. We shall see how this goes.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

After about 50 days we got the Jeep back today. Seems to be running fine per the wife. I have not driven it yet. The rental came up to be 2200.00. Ouch!

Glad to hear you got the jeep back. Is the dealer still buying the jeep from you?

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

The yellow check engine light came on at 16K on my 2011 V6. The dealer says it's a problem with the head and it needs to be replaced( if i understood correctly) One sympton I've noticed, is that the engine idles rougher than before. The dealer is waiting for parts. I'm told I can still drive it as normal, but don't plan a cross country trip.

In other words might get stranded, but don't get stranded too far from home!! Who is your dealer?

No. They are the absolute worst dealer I have ever dealt with. They took almost 30 days to pay of my trade, I had to take the check to the bank myself so I wouldnt get a late payment on my credit! You cant even call them and get anyone to talk to you on the phone. You can leave all the messages you want but you wont get a call back unless your askin about buying a vehicle. I will never deal with them again! Now the dealer that actually fixed our Jeep has been great. We told our attorney to proceed with our case. I am now lawyer but he said we had a clear case of breach of warranty because of the number of times it had to be taken to get fixed and the amount of time it took to get fixed. Hey, maybe after all the hell we have been through we may actually get a little something out of it!

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

UPDATE: Picked up the Jeep from the dealer with new head, plugs, etc. I thought the engine sounded noisy from the outside the Jeep. I drove off anyway, and all seemed ok from inside, but within 15-20 minutes, the CEL returned along with the traction control light. Immediately went back to dealer and now told the timing chain tensioner has to be replaced. I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about this situation.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Got it back with a new timing chain tensioner and so far so good. The engine once again runs smooth and quiet.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

I'm having the same exact issue. Open a case with Chrysler. 1-800-763-8422. The dealer has had my jeep for almost two weeks with no end in sight. Terrible.

Where is your Jeep dealer? Mine is in Northern NJ and I'm having the same miserable experience.
