Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

are you or did you notice engine performance issues or was it simply the computer
continuously throwing codes?

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

It's a major issue with the 3.6 Pentastar engines. I have a 2012 GC with an awful engine tick...dealer told me it was normal, however, digging further it seems as it's an issue with the head. My problem is that it has not throw a code yet so they are denying it's an issue. Huge problem with the WK2.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Ours is still up and running. I look for it to happen again at some point in time. We settled a lawsuit against Chrysler Group and our Jeep was fixed but I still am not happy with the reliablilty of this motor and I really hate that it is my wife that has to drive it every day. It was in the shop a total of about 3 months. Not to mention the pure hell of dealing with the Chrysler people over the rental car and the whole claim. Pure mess! Highly unlikely we will ever buy a Chrysler product again! And I dont say that really because of the car problems I say that because of the lack of ownership they take to ensure customer satisfaction and qualilty of product. But hey, they paid for it in the end.

I'm sure you have checked, but Does yours fall under the "3.6 recall" vin range?

The recall was for 2012's and it wasn't for this issue. It was because the blocks may not have been properly flushed which could cause main bearing failure in the engine. This tick problem some are having is in the upper half of the engine.

Why do you look for it to happen again? It seems some have had this problem but most have not. In any case it sounds like your dealer totally sucks.

The selling dealer is def a POS! They were in the local paper for getting fined for several different things. The dealer that we ended up letting fix our Jeep was fine. My guess is it will happen again because they never really changed anything to fix it. They just slapped a whole new head assembly on because they didnt know what else to do. I have heard about this happening too much to trust the original head design. Im guessing within another 30k we should see another cel showing an engine misfire. I hope I am wrong though.

I see...makes sense.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Just got my 2011 back after a CEL and 16K service, was told it was caused by a cylinder 4 misfire due to "carbon particle build up and subsequent expulsion out of exhaust.", and cylinder and spark plug were fine. Basically everything is great. BULLSHIT! This is how I feel. I'm getting smoke blown up my ass. What's up with this engine? Is this happening in any of it's other applications (300c, Durango, Charger, etc.)?

What did they do...reset the computer and call it good? IF so, drive it and see if the CEL returns. If so, then I'd worry.

CEL again. Taking to the dealer in the morning. It's been less than week. What's up?
