Hey gang I ran across this customer satisfaction TSB thingy that says some V6 engines need to be replaced because of dirt in the yada yada. It specifically says that the engine is supposed to be replaced before selling the vehicle whether new or used. It also mentions they are suppose to do that by federal law.

Would be a kick in the A$$ if one of you guys issue was from this. It gives dates of the engine and a sales code but I havent figured out how to tell the build date on the engine. Im sure its easy enough to figure out for someone who knows where it is.

its for 2012 vehicles with V6 from Salalito wherever that is. Engines built previuos to 9/19/2012. edit: ( oh thats Mexico )

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/rc_L3311.pdf

Now if I can just figure where to tell the engine build date is recorded lol.
This is a different issue. This was a actual recall that affected about 2 weeks of production. It had to do with blocks not being properly flushed out. It was production dates last august or sept time frame. Most of these were replaced before they were even sold.

Light came back on today and decided to swing by a dealer along my route and sure enough It's the camshaft sensor "Bank 2", again. Looks like it will be going back to dealer.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Im sorry to hear about all the trouble everyone is having. I have decided to get out from under this heap of junk and buy my wife something else. There is just too many issues going on with this.

Do not be scared to get an attorney. If you are in multiple times to get problems fixed or are without your new car for a few weeks or are getting the runaround from Chrysler on a rental then you most likely can have a case for lemon law or for breach of warranty.

I am glad to be rid of this pain in the ass Jeep. I dont see us owning Chrysler again even though I do love the Ram trucks. They need to learn to step it up and provide rentals like most other manufacturers do!

I'm with you on this one. If this vehicle were trouble free it would probably be my favorite of all the vehicles I've owned. However the number of mechanical issues (normal behavior according to Chrysler) I've experienced have completely soured my experience. Up until now my 2002 VW Passat was the worst with constant trips to the dealer, but the 2012 JGC has now topped that in a short 9 months of ownership. Unfortunately I'm in a lease so I still need to stick with it for another 27 months.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Just read this entire post from start to finish- my 2011 GC 3.6 is going through the exact same thing as we speak. I too bought it used (as someone previously had eluded) from a non Jeep Dealer at 28k that included 12 mo/12k power train warranty... first CEL came on at 34k; dealer read misfire from Cyl 4- their diagnosis was to replace entire electrical manifold (luckily under 3 yr/36k warranty).. CEL went off-

Came back on 2 months later, 5k miles later- now out of new car warranty, took it to local Mechanic whom i've used for years- same misfire reading returned and he noticed unusually pressure on coil within Cyl 4- replaced plugs as well; CEL went off- but he said he still wasn't confident there isn't something deeper going on. Sure enough, next day CEL went on... now here I am reading all of this and seeing it most likely is Cylinder 4 head issue.

I'm in CA.. anyone have any idea 1- if power train warranty from dealer extends even though bought used, 2- what kind of costs Cyl head replacement is if i'm up a creek...??

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

If you bought the Jeep with 28K and it has 34k on it wouldn't it still be under warranty for another 4 years or 66K miles?

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

I need to inquire with dealer... my understanding- b.c i bought used through non-Jeep dealer there is doubt if dealer warranty's are transferrable. i'm 42k now as it stands... Anyone have any idea (if i'm not under power train warranty)- what a cylinder head replacement costs?

Your jeep has a 5yr /100k mile pwrtrain warranty. Take it to a jeep dealer and have it taken care of under warranty. You should not pay $1.

I keep seeing things like this though:
http://www.jeep.com/en/lifetime_powe...ranty/faq.html

if you're the 2nd owner, it's not transferrable. I'll definitely ask, but I'm not 100% confident yet.. the service i've gotten from local dealers around me hasn't been stellar thus far. Don't want to give them too much credit

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

Dude, you are getting the basic warranty and lifetime warranties confused. No matter if you the first or tenth owner, as long as it has less than 100k and less than 5 years old you are covered by the powertrain warranty. I am still trying to figure out how the dealership you bought it from was able to tell you they would give you a 12/12month powertrain warranty when it was already under warranty to begin with.

Re: 11 Grand Cherokee Needs Head Replacement?

I hope so! that would be awesome.... The local Jeep dealer here said i wasn't eligible for warranty either, so i guess they're full of shit as well. And I'm sure the non-Jeep dealer i bought from just throws that in there to make buying from them more attractive... #whip cream on dog shit, if you ask me

Good news.. talked to other dealer (further away) whom i've used before and got good service from... i'm still under powertrain.. all is good in the world.

Thanks for the all the back and forth. Gave me some ammo when i was talking to them about the issues.. the head issue is definitely a known issue within chrysler/jeep...
