13 wk2 starting issues... Help.

I bought my 2013 GC Laredo brand new about 10 months ago and its being finiky on starting sometimes.... It will start then die then wont start for 30 minutes or more and it happens a few times a week then it might not for a few weeks then 4 times a week its completely random.

Of course i took it to the dealership and they said " its not throwing a code we cant do anything". And they expect me to leave it with them for who knows how long untill it does it for them.... And at the same time i have to pay for a rental car. What do i do now?

Thanks for any help i can get!

Re: 13 wk2 starting issues... Help.

I had the same issue with my 2011 Laredo X. It was the the fuel relay inside the TIPM. To prove what was happening to the dealer I took a video of the no start behavior on my iPhone and showed it to them when I brought it in. They still wanted to reproduce the problem, but at least I provided some initial proof. Anyway, they reproduced it once and traced the issue to the fuel relay. They offered to install just a relay bypass kit and not replace the TIPM but I opted to start a case with Chrysler instead and pressured them into covering half the cost of replacing the entire TIPM (car was well out of warranty).

I think it's what chaddn says. Mine is doing the same thing, it's in the dealer right now, I opted for the relay bypass, since I am out of warranty and have no $1,500 or so laying around to invest on a new TIPM. Plus, from what I learned so far, itīs a problem with the TIPMs in general, so you have no warranty it won't happen again with the new one (no new part number has been developed, it's the same and a prayer the new one won't fail).
I'd try the bypass and see how it goes, and maybe later, if you still feel like changing it you do.

In the mean time, what I did and seemed to work is to "try to start" the car as if you forgot to press the brake pedal; you will hear the fuel pumps working for a second, after that, put ignition switch to off and then try starting properly pressing the brake pedal. This seems to "wake" the faulty relay. Started every time with that trick. Let me know if I am just lucky or if it really works for everyone! Good luck.
(Note: mine is keyless start, so you first push and it goes from OFF-->ACC-->RUN (1st time no brake pedal); press again so it goes to OFF; and then press brake and start)
