2014 Altitude - Gauge Cluster Freak Out... VIDEO

I attached a video for everyone to see and hopefully get some feedback on.

I picked up my Altitude back in August and it has been in for service numerous times since. Here is a timeline since day of pickup

August 2014:
- picked up Jeep - 13 miles on ODO

September 2014:
- power steering fluid leak from fitting on rack
- Dealer #1 replaced steering rack @ 345 miles
- I installed 5k HID kit and LED fogs (used relay harness)

November 2014:
- gauge cluster started to flash and beep (exactly like in video)
- documented with video on cell
- transmission has thump going from 2nd to 1st gear
- brought to dealer #1, service manager and tech BOTH witnessed the gauge cluster freaking out.
- TSB for transmission was aborted due to the gauges flashing and not being bale to continue.
- 30+ codes were pulled up... "loss of communication"
- dealer reset ECU and gave car back and said if it comes back again to drop it back off for further testing.
- I found the TSB to re-tighten ground wire on passenger side frame and it was tight. However i did re-torque it to make sure.
- I also went through every fuse to make sure they were all "seated" and they were.

December 2014 - January 2015:
- same as November 2014
- documented with video on cell
- I opened a case with Jeep Customer Service, case manager assigned to me
- dealer #1 thinks its my HID kit and LED fogs (even though he said he deals with Chrysler's and Jeep's all the time with aftermarket HID kits and hes "okay with them")
- dealer disconnect HID kit from (+) terminal under hood and continued testing. Star case opened on 12/19.
- TSB for transmission shifting problem was uploaded successfully
Fast forward 6 consecutive weeks... driving a loaner car, not Jeep
- customer service case escalated to "resolution team" and new case manager assigned
- dealer was told by Star tech to remove the HID kit and LED fogs completely and re-install my OEM halogen bulbs
- dealer "rechecked all grounds and performed wiggle tests" of all wire harnesses in the truck. All was good.
- double checked fuses to make sure they were seated, and they were
- i requested a new PCM be ordered and installed, but was denied by both the dealer and the resolution team, because they could not identify that as the main culprit.
- 100+ miles of test driving and care was fine
- transmission no longer bumps on 2-1 down shift
- dealer gave me car back January 30th

March 2nd - March 9th 2015:
- exact symptoms come back, except this time the car decided to shut of on me at a traffic light. Next traffic light the transmission shifted into neutral on its own (this was on Saturday March 7th)
- documented with video on cell
- car again hesitates upon acceleration.
- 2-3 days in between the car was perfectly normal, minus the check engine light. So i was able to use it until my appointment on 3/9. My commute to work is 3miles each direction.
- 2nd jeep resolution case opened, new case manager assigned

March 9th 2015:
- dropped car off at dealer #2 (where i bought the Jeep from)
- 1st dealer would not give me a loaner again because i didn't buy my jeep from them.
- star case re-opened and rental car assigned - Ford Fusion with out of state plates!!
- 2nd jeep resolution case opened, case manager assigned

March 16th:
- no updates from dealer or jeep resolution team

As of today, my jeep has physically been out of my possession for a total of 8 weeks or 2 months out the 7 months I've had it.

Symptoms when dash is flashing:

- transmission shifts erratically
- engine hesitates upon acceleration (not every time)
- shift knob lights strobe and flash
- loss of blinkers
- loss of hazard lights
- no u-connect or blue tooth
- no remote start

Latest Symptoms as of March 2015:

- engine stalls (happened once on March 7th)
- transmission shifts into neutral by itself
- gauge cluster black out (started on March 2nd - present day)
- gauge cluster still flashes even with the car off and only in accessory mode

Now I read the service procedure for the replacement of the steering rack and there are a few major parts that have to be removed in order to do so. For example the electronic hydraulic power steering assembly, the entire RH shock assembly and RH half shaft. So i am thinking maybe the first dealer inadvertently damaged a sensor or wire somewhere, maybe shorting something out causing this problem?

The weird thing with this situation is that the time in between each set of occurrences has been about 4 weeks. Adding mileage doesn't seem to trigger anything. Time seems to be the factor here and it seems 4 weeks is the magic number to trigger everything.

Thoughts?

What's the Build Date on this? Sounds like an Early Build.

If it were mine, I'd ask the dealer for a "Trade" deal that you can't refuse.

Altitude's weren't produced until March 2014 so none of them are "early builds".
Mine was a March 14' build and I've had no mentionable issues.

'14 Altitude - Gauge Cluster Freak Out, need help! *VIDEO*

I've been advised to wait and see if the dealer can "fix" my problem before I pursue vehicle replacement through Chrysler and or legal means.

It already qualifies for NYS lemon law, for being out of service for beyond 30 days... but I am hoping it doesn't have to get escalated to that level. At this point what's another month without my Jeep?

Just out of curiously how does the process work when and if Chrysler agrees to buy a vehicle back and replace with a new one?

Re: 2014 Altitude - Gauge Cluster Freak Out... VIDEO

I think you should escalate to that level and not wait!
I have an early build of 2014 and no big issues.
I'm sure they screwed up smth with the electric system when they worked on the car the first time. And anyway the car had issues from the start.just
And yeah the fact they blamed in on the hids its "standard" That's what they call troubleshooting )
Just tell them that if they can't identify the problem with certainty you want another car. They can't just wiggle the cables and send you on your way to test.

Let me know if you still want the sub+grille

WOW, and I was pissed when they kept mine for ten days.....I think if I were in your shoes, I would be contacting a Lemon Law Attorney, no cost to you by the way, but it's your car....If you haven't sunk a lot of out of pocket money into after market up grades, what have you got to loose

Good luck trying to convince Jeep to trade. I've been battling with them for months over my truck. Finally talked to a competent person today so hopefully things get done now.

If your state has a "lemon law", I suggest you think about it.......

At this point I don't see why keeping myself in a state of rage and frustration would do me any good. I am being patient yet very stern with jeep about their whole process. I'm in customer service myself and deal with real crazies everyday, and it's those people that I'm most unwillingly to do anything for... to me it's the people that never loose their cool, are polite and are willing to listen to what I have to say that I actually bend over backwards for. They are the customers I appreciate.

Its gotten so bad that I started keeping a daily call/email spread sheet. It really has been a great tool to keep tabs on who and when I had conversations with.

I have plenty of time during the day keep tabs on my case. It's just so crazy how they operate. Probably the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. No customer should ever go through what I'm going through, especially with this much time elapsing with no resolve in sight.

Please keep your ideas steaming in on what else I should suggest to the "star" tech team to look into.
