14 GC problems and repair results (sharing)

So bought my 14 GC Overland V6 in April, 2013, truck was built in March, definitely an early build. Have been in trouble with this Jeep for 4 months now, so thought it might be good to share something for someone who's having the same problems.

1. Endless engine light for misfire. Truck ran fine, but the engine light would be on after resetting it, dealer did not find any problem with it. CODE: P03XX. Resolution: finally after 5 visits to the dealership, they replaced my spark plug, injector and coil. It has been two weeks, and the light has not been on since.

2. Clunk noise when truck comes to a complete stop. This happens when the truck comes to a stop, shifting from 2nd to 1st. Noise comes from left front. Finally after 3 visits and a road test, the dealership confirmed the noise, but didn't know what was wrong. So I need to bring the truck back to them next Tuesday and get a loaner. Will update on this issue.

3. Noisy blower motor. Blower motor is very noisy when setting the fan to level 2 or higher. A hizzling sound from the left part of the glove box. I usually listen to rock when I am driving and still can hear it. Not the end of the world, but really annoying. This happened after one software update, since that time they did 10 flashes on my car, so I do now know which one caused the issue. Delaer couldn't confirm the issue, they thought it was normal. I got into a new Summit this morning, and it definitely sounded lower than my truck. Not sure if anyone has the same issue here.

Re: 14 GC problems and repair results (sharing)

My truck was built April 6th, 2013, and I haven't experienced any of those problems, so they should be able to fix them. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Re: 14 GC problems and repair results (sharing)

My '14 just had to have to HVAC motor replaced, for what sounds like the same noise you are experiencing. It definitely isn't normal and probably not caused by any of the flash updates.

The dealer was barely able to replicate the noise when I took it to them, but still did the service under warranty and now I'm not hearing it anymore. So I suggest getting yours checked specifically and request a new one.

March '14 build had a few issues, all quickly fixed. None of the issues that the OP mentioned.

Thanks for the information. I'll bring it back in and try to have the service manager replace the motor...I almost doubted if there was something wrong with my ears....

I completely understand. I had to ask my girlfriend to hear for it too and make sure I hadn't lost my mind. But I realized that it would come and go for some strange reason, so the rattling noise wasn't always there, but still needed to be fixed.

Update:

For #2. Replaced brake pads. Only good for two days, heard the clunk again this morning. Will bring it back...
For #3. Replaced blower motor, the noise is gone.

Hmmm, that's interesting they thought the clunks were related to the brakes though.

Yea~they weren't sure if replacing brake would resolve the problem. For the first two days, there was no clunk. But apparently, it did not fix it.

Does the clunk happen every time, or only with the first forward motion stop after reversing out of a drive or parking spot?

I've had a car do this before on the first forward stop, due to the tolerances between the caliper and pad the pad will slide all the way forward or backward and then clunk when stopping for the first time in the other direction. You could have a caliper on the loose end of spec. Good luck, it is annoying.

Thanks for the information. The clunk happens pretty 80% of the times when car comes to a complete stop. My first few stops are usually without the clunk, but the more stops I take during a drive, the more likely a clunk is going to happen.

My has only done it once in its 4000 mile life. It was when I backed out 15 feet and then pulled forward back in the spot.
