14 GC Summit, Problems & Problems w/ Dealer

Hey guys, new member here. A couple months ago I bought a 2014 Grand Cherokee Summit w/ the Hemi. Love the truck so far except for a few little, nit picky issues I've come across. Today I took the truck into the dealer and got a ton of excuses from the service department saying the following:

1) Driver's side door has something rattling around in it. Under acceleration or deceleration it sounds like a screw it rolling around in the door frame. Service department said they tried everything to get the door to rattle and couldn't find anything. It's the first thing I noticed when I bought the Jeep! I told the guy on the phone when he called to let me know the Jeep was done that it was probably a screw in the frame of the door and he said, "Well, if that's it we'll never find it". WTF?

2) The memory seat function wasn't working. Sometimes it would program, sometimes it wouldn't. The "Easy Entry" feature wouldn't work anymore either making it difficult to get in and out of the truck (I'm a big guy, the "Easy entry" feature was a selling point for me). They said the seats were out of calibration and they fixed it. Yay!

3) The driver's seat squeaked. Taking off, slowing down, whatever, the seat squeaked. I'm not THAT big so it shouldn't be squeaking two months after purchase. They said they heard it squeaking during the test drive but when they went to look at it, the seat didn't squeak at all. So they "accidentally" fixed it? Ugh.

4) The Fuel door. This is what really set me off. My top of my fuel door is not flush with the body. It sticks out about a 1/4 inch. The guy who called me told me, "There is no fix for it". I asked about a new fuel door and he said it would do exactly the same thing. He said, "It's a problem with the design of the vehicle and there isn't anything we can do". I really have a hard time believing this, especially after several internet searches looking for proof that this is a design problem. Nothing was turned up. I also mentioned to him that I've seen several (ALL) other Grand Cherokee's of the exact same year and model without this problem. He said it's because those other trucks don't have the Hemi and the design issue is something that's due to it having the Hemi. I've never heard this.

Also, they called me four minutes after the service department closed and told me to pick the truck up tomorrow morning. No biggie I suppose but with all the other crap he fed me it still really irritates me.

So, my question to all of you, is what do I do next? Who do I call to get resolution with my problems with the truck? Am I being overly picky? I'm not a rich guy. I'm not terribly well-off or anything. Paying $55k for a truck is a whole lot of money for me and I honestly expect excellence in it. I've owned other vehicles of similar expense (2013 Camaro ZL1 that I traded in on the Jeep) and I never saw anything wrong with them. I specifically chose a Chrysler product because of the amazing quality and attention to detail in their vehicles and I have been nothing but impressed with the Jeep, other than a few little issues I expect to come across but also expect to be easily fixed.

Thanks in advance!

Go to another dealer and if that one is no good go to another one. The key to getting good service is finding a good dealer, it can make a huge difference. Many of the jeep dealers are just plain rotten. I'm not sure I would use the words "amazing quality" to describe the 2014s but they are slowly addressing many of the issues. I have been back about 10 times in the last year I have owned it with mostly minor issues yet issues that need to be resolved, down to 1 or 2 items on the bucket list. Keep an eye on the TSB list sooner or later most of the issues end up on there. I do like my jeep a lot just glad most of the new car issues have finally been resolved.

Dude all stealerships are terrible. I have years of experience dealing with them...it's about money. Period. The only thing you can do is be a "jerk" and escalate the issue with the gm, owner, etc. but doubt you will get anywhere other then a lot of excuses and blah, blah, blah.

Agreed only remedy is take biz elsewhere, and hope you find a different answer...also do it yourself....backyard mechanic.

Also agree about another dealer. My early build 3/13 Summit has a perfectly flush fuel door.

LMFAO at the fuel door not fitting properly due to it having the hemi.

That's one of the better ones I've heard...

Yeah, that must be some BIG engine if it causes the fuel door to bulge out!

There are some very good dealers out there - just like in any business. Time to find a better one.

Re: 14 GC Summit, Problems & Problems w/ Dealer

It could be they use a bigger gas cap for the bigger engine. It might be the door hits the top of the cap.

Mine sits flush, but my cap has been missing since day one. I call the dealer every week or so, but they keep telling me it is on backorder from Mexico. I hope when I get it the door still sits flush!

Mine was missing too so the dealer used silicone caulk and sealed up the door so nothing could contaminate the gas. But the door was flush.

I have a cap on mine. Found it one day on top of a large can of wasp and hornet spray. And my fuel door sits flush when closed.
