14 JGC Overland Battery Issue

Lately i've been having a battery issue where the vehicle won't immediately start in the morning. Get in the car, all the lights work, windows can roll down, powered mirrors can open/close. Try to start it and it will not "turn over". It goes through the rest of the startup process, and you can hear the air suspension (doing whatever it is it always does). As soon as that part is done, try to start it up again and it starts right up. I had the battery tested and it did come back and needing to be charged. Charged it, ran fine for a couple days and now it's back. Easy enough to say it's a bad battery, but why would it be able to fully start the car without issue a minute after it previously couldn't? Here's a video of it:

Re: 14 JGC Overland Battery Issue

Maybe all the other systems are drawing too much power on the initial start? The second time around, everything has done their "boot up" processes, and the only draw is the starter?
Just a guess, not sure, but seems easy enough to remedy by replacing the battery(s).

Could be a bad cell in the battery. Replace it.

Re: 14 JGC Overland Battery Issue

Kinda what i was thinking, but check out this picture of the battery. Pink date sticker on it says "10/15". Jeep's build date was Jan 2014 and in service was July 2014, even if it was the original battery it's only a little over 2.5 years old, but that sticker usually is the batteries build date, meaning it hasn't been in service for a full year and already doing this. I bought the Jeep in March so am not the original owner either. Dealership's looking at it tomorrow but a new battery is only like $150, wondering if i should start there first rather than deal with them.

Re: 14 JGC Overland Battery Issue

Sometimes batteries are just bad (look at Samsung, haha). But if it's a normal battery the only thing that would have killed it so quickly is the accessories or just a cell in the battery that's bad. Also can't rule out how much the battery could have been stressed by og owner.

Re: 14 JGC Overland Battery Issue

Just bring it to a shop and they can stress test the battery.

The more you futz with it more likely you will fry something.

New cars a very sensitive to bad batteries.

Took it by the dealer, battery tested at 466 CCA's. Jeeps at 37,000 miles but the battery was replaced under warranty this past January. They're keeping it overnight to run the stress test and discharge test and recover tomorrow. They're hopeful fca will approve a warranty replacement. Still not too pumped about having a third battery in the car in less than 26 months.

I'm not super smart about batteries but wouldn't replacing a battery that many times suggest you may have a bad ground?

I had a sort of similar issue with my 14 JGC Limited. Turned out to be a bad BCM which was killing the battery when the vehicle wasn't running. New BCM and battery fixed her all up. Perhaps that's what you're experiencing?

Piecing together the info from all your posts, this vehicle obviously has a history. How many batteries is it going to take before your dealer and FCA get together and find the real problem? Don't waste your own money thinking you'll be able to resolve it by throwing yet another new battery at it.

Right.

Hopefully the dealer is going to check more than the battery.

Agreed, there's definitely an underlying issue. Will be interesting to hear what they say. Will ask to make sure they check into and will update after i hear back. Thanks all!
