'14 random "Key Fob has left the vehicle" message?

I have seen this twice in the last few days, both with the fob in my pocket. Today it happened when I dropped my daughter off at school. She got out of the car and when the door closed I got a audible warning and the "Key fob has left the vehicle" (or similar) message with a picture of the fob shown in the EVIC. Before shouting to bring the key back I checked my pocket and the fob was there. I scrolled the EVIC display options and the message went away. I _think_ the same thing happened a few days ago, when I dropped her off, but I didn't read the message as I was messing with the display anyway. The key has been in my right jacket pocket or pants pocket both times. I find it hard to believe the battery would be going after just a month, but maybe... Perhaps I should throw some spares in the glove box. I tried to duplicate the issue again myself, but couldn't. Has anyone else experienced this?

I kind of wish Jeep would have put a dedicated fob holder in the car. Having it rattle around in the cup holder, which I do use, or the compartment at the base of the center stack where I might forget it isn't ideal.

While looking at that message I also noticed that there is one pixel above the odometer display the EVIC that is flickering. Great... I sure hope that this isn't a sign of things to come.

Re: '14 random "Key Fob has left the vehicle" message?

There have been a couple of threads where the vehicle didn't lock/unlock where the culprit was the key fob being in the same pocket with the persons cell phone or in the same hand. Essentially the cell phone interferes with keys signal.

Any chance the fob was in the same pocket as your cell phone when this happened or very close proximity?

Thanks for the reply! That is a definite possibility and makes perfect sense. Usually I have the cell in the left pocket and wallet and key in the right or fob in right pants pocket, but the fob may have been with my cell phone this time. I may experiment a bit. Hopefully that is all it is.

Let us know. I could see the system rechecking for the key when it knows a door has opened and closed which it why it might take until your daughter gets out for the message to pop up. I've found even slightly moving the key fob around when next to the phone is enough to get around the interference.

If the daughter also carries a fob, there is one more possibility--the vehicle was using hers at the time.

The battery on yours could also be a bit weak--the lock/unlock feature should work from a fairly long distance which could be compared against both fobs...
