I've been using CastrolEdge 5w20. It does meet Chrysler spec (it does not show on bottle any more, it used to, guess they ran out of room for other specs on the bottle but does show on web site).

I use OEM Filter.

Re: 1st maintanance coming up, how / which oil do you recommend?

THANKS so much guys! I went and got the mopar filter from dealership and 7 quarts of pennsoil platinum full synthetic.. oil change done, car runs great

although!....... i had a symptom of a hard shift this past weekend.. only going from 2nd to 3rd gear, shift wasnt smooth as it always has been.. so i did some research, sounds like a common problem... fortunately it went away by sunday night, and all smooth this morning..

beats me why this is happening, i hope it doesnt come back :-/

The Pentastar only takes 6 qrts.
The Hemi is 7 qrts.

Did you swap out your Pentastar for a Hemi?

Re: 1st maintanance coming up, how / which oil do you recommend?

What mileage is recommended for the first and succeeding changes?
0-20w or 5-20? Engine is 3.6 V6. Model is 2014 Limited.
Oil level needs to be checked after running before the top filter drains down.
No problems so far at 4400 miles. I love the 8 speed. Bought in June. Earllier ones seemed to be more sluggish. (The demo I drove was.)

it took 6, we started and let it idle for 15 secs, checked level again.. and it was just below max on dipstick.. so i bought 7th quart and put a little bit in

id never swap pentastar... i gunned it few times and for Toronto it has more than enough power.. i AM getting intake, ported throttle-body, and the tune though!

Re: 1st maintanance coming up, how / which oil do you recommend?

So here is a question, what are dealerships charging for regular vs synthetic oil changes these days. I was picking up oil at walmart the other day and these are the costs that I found for a do it yourself change on the 5.7 with a mopar filter. So that's 7 quarts of 5w20 plus the mopar filter($6.67) for the totals below.

For Pennzoil ULTRA Platinum Full Synthetic it is $45.83
For Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic it is $41.91
For Pennzoil standard non synthetic it is $29.73

What is a dealer full synthetic change going for and what is a standard change? Also what the hell is the difference between Pennzoil ULTRA Platinum and Pennzoil Platinum? They are both Full synthetics and almost the same cost? I have always bought the ULTRA Platinum but now I see there is also just a Platinum which I don't see all that much difference? They seem to tout similar things

Thats exactly the same price it is at walmart $25.17 for the pennzoil platinum full synthetic and the Penzzoil ULTRA Platinum Full Synthetic is $27.97. So not far from the same price like .56 cents a quart difference. So is the ULTRA a full synthetic plus or something like that lol. Just seems strange to have the lesser platinum one cost almost as much as the ultra

its was more just a curiosity of why Pennzoil has two separate full synthetic oils that are nearly the same and are nearly the same price. I don't change my oil to save money I do it to save time and to know it was done right so not cause im pinching pennies on oil lol.
also a lady at work was telling me she paid $229 on a synthetic oil change and I wanted to tell her what a normal rate was cause I thought she was being taken advantage of and wanted to help her.
