1st problem

Well, I bought a 2014 GC limited 4x4 recently. The vehicle has 66,000 miles on it and looks well taken care of. A couple of days ago, I noticed a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Since it is still under the power train warranty, I took it into the local Jeep dealer. They checked it out and said it was the front left wheel bearing. They wanted $336 to replace it. As with everything, I got a second opinion on it and the second place to look at it said the wheel bearings were fine and the noise was coming from the front differential. I know if it is something in the front differential, then the power train warranty will pick it up. I'm not sure if I should take it back to the Jeep dealer or what to do.

Any suggestions?

Also, would it be ok to drive it the way it is this coming weekend on a 10 hour round trip?

Re: 1st problem

I have seen a few 4th gen front wheel bearings go out and make noise, but have never had a front axle make noise if that helps

Re: 1st problem

My '14 Overland needed a left front wheel bearing in less than 10,000 miles. One thing I had done was take it out of gear at 40MPH and listen to the noise diminish as the car slowed. In gear it sounded the same. I told the tech that and he went right to the wheel bearing. It took two weeks for the part to come in.

Re: 1st problem

I went ahead and replaced the front wheel bearing today. It was a rather simple task. I plan on getting out tomorrow and seeing if the noise is gone. Just didn't get time today to do so.
