2 seconds of stink?

I keep forgetting to ask about this... but for some reason (since we picked it up in june) There is a 2 - 3 second stink that comes out of the vents just after start. This only happens if it has sat for at least a few hours.

It reeks too... like chemicals + BO? or feet? not even sure how to describe it. Goes away very fast but its always there.

It wasn't a particularly distinctive stink description.

Every now and then, after a hot day, the next morning I get a mild whiff of what smells sorta like coolant, but its gone so fast I could be imagining it, and it doesn't even reliably happen.

Eau de stinky socks is typically cruft/crud/algae/mold/mildew in the A/C due to moisture, but on a new vehicle this seems wierd unless you do NOT see a huge puddle under it when parking after a good drive on a hot muggy day--where you could have a drain tube clogged.

Unfortunately, without you posting a sample of either your smell or your stinky socks, hard to say if could be some other mild fluid leak. You might want to take a stinky sock to the dealer as a sample, and just hope the Jeep smells up when there--where it may have to be done first thing in AM, after a hot run, etc. whatever it is when you notice it.

I would consult the service department. I do not have this issue.

Mutant B.O. sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

I used to have a 3rd gen 4 runner and every time I was on an incline and giving it gas it would smell like sulfur. Granted, it wasn't on start up, but man, did that stink.

Also, there was a TSB on that, so it was rectified at a certain point.

I used to get the same smell every time I turned the a/c on. I replaced the air filter and it did not help. It only comes on w/ the a/c for the first few seconds.

Most auto stores and dealer parts carry the A/C destink spray. Haven't looked to see if a good place to spray it exists on the WK2s yet.

There is also an A/C foam that works even better, but then, you gotta get the foam out of there.

Maybe if you hang a couple strips of bacon in there, you won't mind as much.

Still seems odd on such a new vehicle, it usually takes a year or more to build up such that it stinks.

Its under warranty, make them take a good whiff.

Lysol into the interior intake with the a/c on recirculate. Worked for me on a new '93 explorer. But, it only took a couple of 5 second bursts.

The service manager did it to clear the smell and recommended doing it once a year after a humid summer.
