2010 Shifts into 4 Wheel Low on Own

Have a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, Hemi, Quadra Drive II, 18K miles. Earlier in the week after starting the Jeep and driving away it went in 4WLow on its own. Had a difficult time going back to 4WH. After several attempts went to 4WDH. Since then the steering is very tight. Reminds me of my old 2002 when put in 4WDH from 2 WD. The dealer checked out and found nothing wrong. The steering is very tight and it defiantly feels significantly different from when it went into 4WL on its own earlier in the week. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Re: 2010 Shifts into 4 Wheel Low on Own

So are you saying the drive train is binding up on turns. If so the transfer case may be stuck in 4WD for some reason, but I don't know why the dealer could miss that.

Dealer is saying that it is full time 4WD? Its almost like it was always in 2 WD and when went to low and then out of low something changed.

Yeah it is so called full time but the locking of the front/rear driveshafts (over simplification) is controlled by a clutch and motor which is inturn controlled by the computer. In normal, there should be little to no "binding" feeling because the clutches are released (there will be some binding as the transfer case is never free wheeling). If you can feel the binding, the clutch may not be releasing, for whatever reason. Maybe a reset of the computer is warranted.

Is it skipping and hopping on sharp turns? The dealer should have a procedure to verify the proper torque split between front and rear axles..

Re: 2010 Shifts into 4 Wheel Low on Own

Is it a Quadra Drive II or Quadra Trac II. QTII would have 2WD, 4WD auto, and Lo modes where QDII would have select terain, i.e mud, sport, normal, rock type selections..

They both use the same transfer case, but have different computer programming. QD has a limited slip rear. Perhaps the early builds were different, I dunno. But do you have a 2WD position? What happens when you select it?

For some reason the computer may be thinking you have a slipping tire, are the tires all the same?
