2011 HEMI - Shakes going over bumps

Hi all,

I have a 2011 V8 Grand Cherokee that I just bought Certified Pre-Owned this past Friday. I did not notice this before I drove it off the lot, but after doing a substantial amount of driving I finally noticed that the Jeep has some unusual-feeling vibration when going over bumps. At first I thought it was normal, since it is a longer vehicle. I've felt a similar sensation in full-size pickup trucks, where you can distinctly feel the front end hitting the bump before the rear wheels.

However, after doing some research, I find a lot of people say that their GC feels very solid. To me, going over a bump feels more like a slight "shudder" in most cases. It isn't anything that feels dangerous by any means, but it also isn't pleasant.

Is this normal behavior? Or should I possibly be considering having something looked at before my 3-month/3,000 CPO warranty expires?

A little more detail
- V8
- Tow package (auto-leveling suspension)
- No aftermarket suspension mods or lift kits
- No Quadra-Lift
- 42,500 miles

Thanks in advance, everyone!

EDIT: I wanted to clarify that I am not noticing any particular noise when this happens, except the expected bump. No creaking or anything like that.

I also have a 2011 Laredo X V8 and have the same issue. You hit a bump and the suspension shudders, which seems to originate from the front of the car. It feels like the tires bounce a bit and that reverberates through the rest of the car. I had a 2012 Laredo base V6 prior to this vehicle and it rode really smooth, so I don't think this is normal. I've searched a ton online and you're the second person that has described this same shudder and you happen to have the same options I do. Unfortunately the other person never posted whether they solved the issue.

Mine has 60k miles on it and right now I'm leaning towards replacing the struts. It feels like there is no dampening on the front springs which would point to the strut not doing its job. I'm hoping to get it in the shop next week.

Exactly! Well if you end up getting it looked at please let me know if that ends up fixing the problem. I might try to bring mine in this weekend to get looked at also.

I need to have my transmission checked, too, because I'm getting the 55-65mph shuddering that several other people have complained about. That's another issue though...

Re: 2011 HEMI - Shakes going over bumps

Well, I had a buddy look closer at the front struts and they seem to be OK. He took the top bolt off and tested the response on them and compared to another 2011 GC it seemed fine.

After driving the car a bit more (it's my wife's) it almost feels like something under the car is bouncing, not necessarily the wheels. We put it up on a lift and he pushed up on the transmission using a crowbar and could move it up a little more than a half inch. Not sure if that is normal. Could it be the trans bouncing, causing the car to shake over bumps? Maybe it's a bad trans mount and/or engine mount(s)?

I hate to take this thing to a dealership and have them start the shot in the dark process. I'm about ready to just trade it in and be done.
