2011 Hemi ticking noise

I bought a WK2 2011 in early August and have had a ticking noise that I didn't notice until it was housed in an enclosed garage. It has 35k miles on it. The ticking noise is there from a cold start. It lasts only 30 seconds and then it's completely gone. I've used seafoam in the oil. I've had an oil change using synthetic Mobil1.

The video I linked is my Jeep. The sound in the upload is lower pitched than what it really sounds like. I am in the process of setting up a date to have the dealer look at it, but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts in the mean time.

Thanks!

Re: 2011 Hemi ticking noise

To me it sounded like normal cold Hemi noise. They are a little noisy when cold. Doesn't hurt to get it checked out sometimes its hard to tell from a video. The Hemi does use a floating type piston with a short skirt and the piston can rock a little in the bore until it expands a little which can cause a piston slap noise when cold.

As info: brought it to the dealer and they found broken exhaust manifold bolts.

Mine was the same thing. Had significant ticking on a cold start, but didn't last long. Smoke test revealed an exhaust leak at the passenger manifold. Broken bolts replaced and new gasket, cold-start ticking gone.

Re: 2011 Hemi ticking noise

We have exact same noise on cold start up. Will get it checked out when we return it for them to remove data recorder installed to diagnose mystery stalling . This thing is really getting to be a PITA!!!

Passenger side manifold bolt was broken. Got it done at an exhaust shop and not at a dealership as we are off warranty anyway. Guy said drivers side would've been an engine drop cause its so tight on that side. Still cost $600 to fix. One more big repair bill and this pile is gone.

My 2011 had something similar, but luckily it was covered under warranty. They did a smoke test from the tailpipe and it revealed the leak.

Re: 2011 Hemi ticking noise

Mines doing the same thing. I have the extended warranty. Looks like I'll be taking it to the dealership. Thanks for the info!

Re: 2011 Hemi ticking noise

Hi, what is the smoke test from the tailpipe ? To plug it up and see if any gas movement near the exhaust manifold area ?

They use one of these: Redline Detection Official Site – Smoke Pro Diagnostic Leak Detector to pump smoke into the tail pipe. It will reveal any leaks.
