2011 jeep gc front differential fluid refill

Just changed the front & rear differential and transfer case fluids on our 2011 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4.
Everything went well except that I noticed the front differential only took about half a quart of fluid.

According to the dealer and what I have read online, it should take a little over a quart. I used the drain plug at the bottom of the differential to drain axle fluid, and the fill plug on the same side to put the new fluid in.

After about half a quart the fluid started coming out of the fill plug hole. the vehicle is on level ground. the problem is it supposed to take 1.2 quarts. I tried and put some more fluid in and of course it started rushing out even faster.

The rear axle took a little over a quart to fill.
I just don't want to drive it and damage something. Anyone done the service to the front differential recently with some advice???
Thanks

So long as the oil is to the bottom of the fill hole it will be OK.

yeah does fresh fluid come out the bottom when you crack the drain plug open?
