Unknown to me. It would depend on the details of your policy and how much your adjuster was willing to go to bat for you.

It was the OP who first mentioned insurance coverage (Post #140).

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

If the "hydro" occured on the public road system the insurance company could possibly pay if it was deemed that poor road maintenence caused the issue.

The insurance company would then target the couty or council to reimburse, whatever you call them over there.

Probably comprehensive. That's something of a catch-all. It is your own vehicle, so it isn't liability (which covers damage you do to others), it isn't collision since you didn't hit anything. You weren't hurt, it isn't medical.

That pretty much leaves comprehensive.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Any resolution on this?

Did anyone else notice on the picture with the hole in the oil pan it looks like the aluminum is bent towards the inside of the pan and there are pieces of aluminum near the pickup on the right? Seems strange.

Anyway, I was looking into my engine compartment and saw a big gaping hole that I could see down to the garage floor. WTF? Why is this here and there isn't a flap covering it? That can allow for water and debris to get into the compartment... Everyone have that or am I missing something?

That's normal. Everybody has it. Don't worry; it won't hurt anything. Stuff in the engine bay is OK if it gets wet. That plastic panel is there less for protection than for aerodynamics anyway.

That hole comes in handy in case you want to change the oil filter on a hemi

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Aha. I figured it was the oil filter for the hemi....
I had a '99 Chevy with some serious plastic skid plate type deal. It had a hole almost exactly like this one... it was to change the oil filter. Except, guess what.... They had a little swing cover with a latch!! Come on Chrysler........

One time it popped open while we were out on the trail for the day. We had a bunch of stream crossings. Finally see it's open and now there was a bunch of little river rocks all inside the engine compartment sitting on top of the plastic. Had to knock them all out down the hatch. haha.

Wow, crazy story. I guess that's why its not good to buy a new vehicle in the first year of production. Then again I have an 05 WK.

First year of production has nothing to do with it. There's no endemic problem of the Pentastar blowing up. This is still the only instance of it and it's never been fully explained.

It could have happened to pretty much any engine, Pentastar, Hemi, whatever- sometimes a bad part makes it through QC.
