Haha. Jeez guys take it easy. I'm an engineer and was just curious to see if there were any conclusions drawn from this story. We never did hear how it turned out.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Same here. I would like to see how this was resolved. EDIT: After perusing through the thread, it seems the OP made a claim through his insurance company.

BTW...I too, vacation on the OBX in the 4x4 area and have driven through more than a 12" puddle (at a little less than 5mph)
Proof? Sure, here you go: http://s1114.photobucket.com/albums/...t=P1190025.mp4

Yes, that's the OBX in the same area as the OP was referring to. (of course, I had this thing in off-road 2 height) Oh... and there are no small "puddles" here.

Well wasn't that a nice video. It would have been more equivalent to my experience if you had not raised the body up. It also doesn't even come close to what Chrysler shows on their Jeep stream fording commercial. For all you interested parties, I have
a new engine. No it wasn't covered on warranty, and yes it was an insurance claim. Good luck to all of you if you're ever in the same situation trying to get your engine fixed.

Did you verify you had the hood gasket on your car?

OP, glad you got insurance replacement if I interpret this correctly.

After having recently swapped out the OEM intake for a ram air, it looks really difficult for the OEM snorkle system to let enough water into the system to create hydrolock.

The snorkle draws air into the filter box from the bottom, with air flowing up through the filter and up into the secondary intake air box and then into the TB.

Meanwhile, air needs to turn a few right angles around the rubber hood flap to get from the front grill into the snorkle as shown earlier in this thread.

Again, just armchair quarterbacking, but it appears it would take a ton of water feeding the snorkle for some time for Hlock to occur through the intake. YMMV.

And then for it to run lebenty seven miles before the actual hydro-lock? Come on - what really happened?

Re - read the OP's original post, it's more like 700 miles before the event. I wonder if something happened initially (through the puddle) to damage a connecting rod then have it take some time before total failure.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Hey All - I went back and looked at the post #39 and then checked the hood on my 2011 Grand Cherokee, and damn, there are holes for a seal, but NO SEAL!! Time to go back to the dealer and raise some cane about the water entry- maybe let the insurance company know too!

I wonder why the dealer or insurance company didn't notice that?

Does it look like a seal was ever there? Picture?
