Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Frozen's post reminds me of the scene in Police Academy where Leslie Neilson and Priscella Presley do everything and go everywhere in a couple of hours.

He says he returned the car the day after he bought it. But he had time to tow a trailer down the mountains after midnight when it died, brought it back to the dealer for numerous problems which were never corrected, etc, etc ...

I guess time flows differently in Frozen's world.

Thanks for the correction, I should have looked up the title before posting.

LJS851, thank you, Apology accepted. As for Mr Frozen, I have a colleague who had a similar electrical issue with a rental 2011 Grand Cherokee, though he was able to get it into neutral and restart the engine ( also on I-75). I seem to remember a similar thread in another posting. I certainly can sympathize after the blown engine fiasco on my 2011.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

I recently had a similar issue with my 2010 Gr Cherokee. My wife was driving on a state hwy on Long Island and it began to rain. After going through a few small puddles on the road (no flooding - 3" or less @ 30-40 mph), the Jeep began to stall. Fortunately my wife was able to pull over and the Jeep died. After being towed to the dealer, we were told that the engine was hydrolocked and threw a rod, similar to your story. In addition, we were also told that the hydrolocked damage was not covered by the warranty. After complaining to Chrysler, Jeep, etc., we received no satisfaction. Fortunately, most of the cost was covered by our auto insurance. However, I agree that there is a serious issue with the Cherokee.

This is a vehicle that should be able to safely navigate a wet state road without the engine blowing and putting the passengers at risk. After all Jeep advertises this vehicle in off road situations, water, snow, mud, etc.???? No other vehicles seemed to have stalled that day, and no flooding was noted.

This is severe negligence on Chrysler's part due to an obvious design flaw with the air intake being low and with inadequate drainage. Chrysler should be be investigated for warranty fraud.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

Very sorry to hear of your ruined engine. What's interesting is that thus far this is, as I recall, only the second such case cited in this forum. If the issue were simply intake design, presumably there would be many such unfortunate examples.

That said, it is disconcerting that Jeep wouldn't see this as an engineering opportunity, interview you in depth, and take your vehicle in for scrupulous examination and analysis by their engineers -- rather than ignoring it and taking refuge in a legal provision.

I realize that the Jeep is a different year and a different engine, however the design flaw seems to be the same Which makes it even a bigger issue.

Re: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 BLOWN-UP ENGINE!

water ingestion hasnt been an issue for either generation as far as I can tell. Under the ciircumstances described by both of you...you are the only owners I know of. That doesnt mean anything as every owner is not on the internet....but it says somehting between this forum and the other jeep forums on the net. Now...there have been others to ingest water and their engines fail...but they were overraoding, fording...etc.

I saw a WK2 at the dealer last week and it had its engine totally taken a part. I asked them what caused the problem and they said "leakage of water coolant".
