2011 JGC Brake Lights don't come on with ignition off?

HI all,

Have only owned our 2011 JGC Limited for about 2 months. I bought this when my Expedition was getting up there to tow behind our Motorhome. Purchased a Baseplate and Tow Bar Package from Blue Ox and had it installed by their recommended dealer. My issue is that there does not seem to be a way to get the brake lights to work when the ignition is off. I have tried it hooked up to the Motorhome and unhooked. There is an auxiliary brake that actually clamps on the Jeeps brake and pushes the pedal when the MH slows down.

Is the brake light not working when the ignition is off a feature? Every other vehicle I've owned has illuminated the brake lights when you step on the brakes, but with all the electronics and computers on this thing I'm not sure if this Jeep has this feature. Thanks,

My 11 and another 11 GC that I worked on both do not light the brake lights with ignition off either. I haven't tested beyond that. I haven't had a ton of DUI clients in GC's yet! I install DUI breathalyzer.

Thanks for the reply Trek. Spoke with the people who did the install and they are telling me I need to the the electronic key turned to the Acc position. Don't know how long I will be able to travel towing it without the battery dying. Might have to find a way to run a charge line from the camper to the Jeep's battery to keep a charge on it.

Hopefully they can figure out a way to do that. Either way it might be a good idea to keep one of these new fangled jump boxes in the jeep just in case. It's uses the LiIon tech so the whole jump box and accessories store in a case slightly larger than a large tennis shoe. I keep mine in the spare tire storage area. It's small but has plenty of juice.

Oh, by the way, you got me curious so I went out and pushed the brake pedal on my 2011 overland. No brake lights without the key. First vehicle I've ever owned like that.

That is super weird, even my new VW has the brake lights come on regardless of the key or not.

If your engine dies in traffic you better keep it in the back of your mind to hit the flashers button as soon as possible. This was a potentially serious oversight on someone's part. I fail to see the logic behind it.

I'm not sure if the trailer wiring works on the Jeep with the ignition off. But I've used these from the tow vehicles 4pin. and placed them on the roof of a new POS I'm bringing home.
