You can remove sticky residue from surfaces with tape. Take a piece of tape and dab at the residue with it. Just keep dabbing at it, over and over. A twisting motion helps sometimes.
Of course, this isn't very effective when done with with painter's tape.
I always try this before resorting to a solvent like Goo Gone, WD-40, alcohol or acetone.
Oh, and when ordering a car from a dealership, I always explicitly tell them to not affix any dealership stickers or badges to the car, too.
