Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

From page 495 of the WK2 Owner's Manual:

NOTE:
Vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine must use
SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper
operation of the Multiple Displacement System (MDS).
Refer to “Multi-Displacement System” in “Starting and
Operating” for further information.
Lubricants, which do not have both the engine oil certification
mark and the correct SAE viscosity grade number,
should not be used.

Synthetic Engine Oils
You may use synthetic engine oils if the recommended oil
quality requirements are met, and the recommended
maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are
followed.

Thanks moose I'll double check with the dealer. They did the oil change as they promised me 3 free oil changes and services as a part of the package when I bought the car.

She still runs great but that light worries me.

I'll have her checked tomorrow and hopefully it's nothing. With the last service the also did a few updates as seen in the attachment. I wonder if these may contribute!

I hope they didn't use the improper oil type. That would be very embarrassing on their part. I didn't check to ask as they are the official dealer. I expected them to know this already. I also checked all other possible situations (gas cap, rear latch). Nothing... Mmm

Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

So, the interesting thing that they told me when I was in was that if a condition causes the light to go off, it will stay on until the vehicle clears 3-4 start/stop cycles. If the condition doesn't happen again, the light will go off.

Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

I had the same situation a couple weeks back - MIL light came on and lost my eco mode at the same time. Drove to the dealership and it was giving a code 'incorrect gear ratio'. They cleared the code and set me up for an appointment. Never had an issue after they cleared the code, and the dealer advised me to cancel my appointment.

Been fine ever since.

We found the issue causing the problem. At first they said it was a loose sensor. Then on my way out it flashed. Went back and turns out its a damaged sensor...

Just an update . Just got my car this evening. It has been dealt with under my warranty and the dealership were very sympathetic as they really had no definite answer as to why it blew. But replaced it and gave me a free tank of gas + goodies. Jeep coffee tumbler + a voucher to their accessories store! I wasn't lookin for any of this stuff but it's nice to be looked after. I was just happy that it wasn't anything serious.

Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

take her in to the service center and let them do a full check up.

It could be a sensor, could be a misfire...who knows. Chances are, if the vehicle runs perfectly without any problems it's possibly a loose sensor or something very simple and easy to fix.

good luck with that! keep us posted!

Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

light is now off after two days. I'll forget about it and hope it doesn't reappear. What's interesting is that it first came on after I hooked up a trailer(2,000lbs) and plugged in the trailer lights.

Re: 2011 Overland - Check Engine light

Do you have the factory towing package, or an aftermarket installed hitch and wiring?
