2011 Overland: Shake in 1/2 gear at 2000-2500RPM
So; my 2011 has 98k on the odo, and I am experiencing a bit of a shake (as in - the whole car is shaking) in 1st and 2nd gear at about 2-2.5k rpm.
Took it to the dealership of choice, as I am covered with the 100k mile powertrain warranty.
First diagnosis/repair: “….we’re going to replace the transfer case…” ---
I said to myself --- “OK, I suppose that you can replace the transfer case, but I do not think that you’re addressing the problem’s root cause….” I was without my truck for 6 days (Thursday/Friday – weekend – Monday/Tuesday); and this morning, they called me to inform me that “…we’re going to go ahead and replace the rear differential, because the transfer case replacement did not seem to make the problem go away.
We (as in -- the dealer) ordered the part (a whole rear differential??) and it will be 1 week for parts to come in. You can drive the car while we wait for the parts….”
So – I opted to “drive the car” while “we” wait for parts.
My first (...second, third, forth and fifth) inclination is that this is transmission related. Or *potentially* Driveshaft related (perhaps a balance weight was lost in the past 98k miles?). Either way, the dealership's method of root causing is a bit puzzling to me, and if they are going to throw parts at it of this magnitude, therefore resulting in my jeep having a new transfer case, new transmission, new rear differential, (etc etc etc) to address this issue on their dime, then they can go sick.
I guess that I would like to know: anyone else experience this issue? Car is not throwing any codes on the DIC.
