2012 Cherokee Noises

Hey Guys,

I just got a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 and I have 2 noises I'm concerned about.

1. when I pass about 35mph there is an audible ticking from under the drivers dash. Sometimes it clicks 3 or 4 times, sometimes 10 or more. After a minute or two of driving it goes away.
2. in sand when the front tires spin out there is a fairly loud grinding/buzzing from the driver side front wheel area. The service center said this is the ABS system and it is normal. I don't know, but it doesn't sound good.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 2012 Cherokee Noises

1: not sure, could be the car going into highway mode, but this is generally at a faster speed.
2: Traction control preventing slip of the wheels. It makes a lot of noise, but also keeps the beast moving in sand by braking the wheels with slip. The noise is the ABS system pumping the brakes.

Re: 2012 Cherokee Noises

Thanks for the reply. I posted this question in another forum and got the same answer for #2. So everyone agrees #2 is normal.

The answer I got for #1 was "abs system setting itself and will stop after a few thousand miles. It has some thing to do with the computer." #1 bothers me because I didn't notice it in the other vehicles I test drove (but I wasn't listen for it). It is audible through the whole vehicle but only for the first couple minutes of operation.

Re: 2012 Cherokee Noises

I hear this same "multiple click" noise apparently coming from near the instrument panel. I felt I could recreate it by accelerating up to about 40mph and then rolling out of the gas. I haven't really looked into it much more yet.

FIrst post here - I've just got 300 miles on a 2012 5.7 4x4 Overland. Other than this noise, really enjoying the vehicle so far. The more I drive it, the more I like it.

Yeah I get the noise the same way too when rolling out of the gas under 40 mph. I also get a fast ticking noise from the steering column area when under medium to hard acceleration

Re: 2012 Cherokee Noises

It is the ESC calibrating itself and will stop making the noise after 50 cycles have been completed.
