Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

Just a final note: I spoke to my dealer and he was very helpful and looked into this for me. He came back in a couple of days and stated on my 2012 it was as simple as hooking up to the computer and checking the DRL box. I went in for a free tire rotation and had him check the box, all no charge. I really like the DRL look as it sends a lower voltage to the high beams, inside set of lights, and has a really cool glow. The DRL on come on when the car in in "Drive" or "Reverse" . Also I am really impressed my my Service Manager at Jeep Ontario CA for taking time to look into this. I will upload pictures when I get a good shot.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

Mav44

I have a question. I recently installed HID lights, but to use them I need to disable the DRL's because when the DRL's come on, it turns the HIGH beam HID lights on max power.

Can you please confirm that the Canadian grand cherokee uses low power HIGH beams as the DRL's? Others on this website have told me their (US grand cherokee I presume) uses the low beams as DRL's and are convinced that I have my HID wireing incorrectly installed.

I will still need to find a solution for my problem, but I want to confirm that I have the HID wiring installed properly installed first.

Thanks

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

Just got back from my dealer and he was able to enable DRL on my 2013 Trailhawk. So far, I can't find any bugs or changes in the operations elsewhere in the car. He did it at no charge!

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

At the dealer right now.
Had to bring it in for the A/C not turning on with remote start.
Service guy plugged in a scanner and found a few other updates (including the A/C), so waiting for the tech to apply them all.

Before he took it back to the tech, he hooked up a device that wirelessly talks to their main computers. He navigated to what appears to be a web page on their system.
Brought up graphic display of the vehicle systems.
Click on the icon right above the OBDII connection (PCM--something or other).
In that sub-system, go to the 2nd tab from the right.
Scroll all the way down to the bottom.
Edit DRL entry (activate).

He almost missed it. I saw it and pointed it out.

So I haven't had a chance to check that it actually worked yet, but it should have.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee Enable Daytime Running Lights DRL

I have had no bugs show up since I had my DRLs enabled. The dash illumination stays bright(doesn't dim as when normal lights come on), and no problems with my Sirius subscription (someone had suggested that activation simulated Canadian profile and that you might lose your Sirius radio). It's even possible to have them on with the yellow parking lights and the fogs - if you really wanted to....

Shouldn't be any 'bugs'.
It's just an 'activate/deactivate' option in the computer.
Nothing about 'Canada' is needed.
As I stated above, I watched the Service Writer at my dealership activate them for me.

Couple notes:
#1 - as I believe someone else mentioned, they turn off in Park and activate when the shift lever moves out of Park.
#2 - They stay on if the headlight switch is in Auto (daylight), Off, or the marker light position (provided you aren't in Park).
#3 - When a turn signal is activated, the light on that side will go out to ensure the turn signal is highly visible.

My co-worker (another car nut) can't believe they aren't active from the factory, and frankly neither can I. With all the idiots on the road that don't know how to turn on their lights when it's raining/snowing, I'd rather see it be mandatory.

Thanks sooo much. I had to walk my SA through it. Now my 2013 Trailhawk has DRL!
