2012 Grand Cherokee starting problem

For the last month my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee x package wont srart from the first attempt. This happens once or twice per week. The Jeep attempts to start but fails. The longest it took me to start it was 6 attempts. I ruled out the key fob as the Jeep recognizes the key. Anyone experience similar problems?

There are no codes. After doing some research It looks like the tpim needs to be replaced. Thankfully dealer said even if I go over 36000 miles warranty will cover it since problem started at 35000

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee starting problem

I recently purchased my 2012 Grand Cherokee. It is having the same problem. Just does not want to start. I've been to the dealer twice. They keep saying they don't find anything wrong. After some internet research, I am finding this is a common problem and it could be an issue with the tipm. Chrysler, apparently, is trying to keep this quiet. There are other very serious issues as well. Most importantly, the engine stopping while driving. I'm very nervous.

There is a recall from Chrysler on the TIPM, maybe your is included in this recall. Stay after your dealer and let them know your aware of this issue. They should be able to replicate the non-starting problem and make the necessary repair.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee starting problem

Thank you. I did a great deal of research yesterday, and I found a great deal of information that scares me and makes me sad and angry. How did Chrysler screw up their JEEP?!!! THE JEEP? I am armed with the knowledge I now have and will use it to find the best solution to this problem. I bought a beautiful vehicle and I was so proud. I can't even describe how I am feeling right now. Thanks for your post. Means a lot.

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee starting problem

So my Jeep has been at the dealer for over two weeks now (fourth visit). They put in a fuel pump relay kit. No success. Now they have put in a new WIN (ignition module) and a new Passenger Entry Module. I have yet to pick up the vehicle. Last night, the service tech. said I needed to be trained in the car's "safety features" Apparently it is very fussy about "starting the car with the door open" or having one key in the car and starting it with another (very confusing). I can't really explain what that means as I did not understand him. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a car that starts when I need it to and only stops when I want it to. The dealership is awful!

Re: 2012 Grand Cherokee starting problem

My 2012 Overland started having this problem on Sunday before Christmas when we were on our way out of town for the holidays. It would just crank but no fire. We were able to get to start reliably with the remote start option until yesterday when my wife tried to go run some errands and couldn't get it to start at all. After work I was able it started on the first crank so I took it to the dealership and left it overnight. I went over at lunch today and they told me they couldn't get it to start at all and theTIPM was bad. They are going to replace it under warranty thank goodness. (we rolled over 36k on our Christmas trip). The only bad thing is the part is back ordered but supposedly there are 150 in transit. They are hoping to have it in 3-5 days. Also called Jeep customer service and opened a case. They assigned a case manager and will try to expedite since our Jeep dead until it's replaced.

They did a recall for this on the 2011s but so far not on the 2012. The fuel pump relay in the TIPM is bad based on everything I've read. The p54 recall for the 2011 is a hacked in relay. I'm glad they went straight for the TIPM replacement in my case. Service manager told me they had a ton of issues with the TIPM across all platforms. Jeep is going to have to do something.
