2012 Grand cherokee starting problems

Since a few month I have irregular starting problems with my Jeep.
The starter motor is turning the engine but no starting and sometimes it does not even do that.
When I disconnect the negative battery lead and reconnect the car starts as normal.
I have brought it to the dealer but they could not find anything wrong.
Is there anybody with a similar problem and or solution?

Re: 2012 Grand cherokee starting problems

Your TIPM may be bad or fuel relay is not working properly.

Can you explain me what a TIPM is?
Is it something I can change/repair myself?
What are the cost of renewing the TIPM?

Last Saturday I had something new, I was slowly driving in a traffic jam when suddenly the dashboard lights started flickering and the engine died, again I had to dis- and re-connect the battery connection to be able to get the car driving again.

Re: 2012 Grand cherokee starting problems

My 2011 Jeep had the same no start problem. It was caused by a problem with the fuel pump relay. The relay is located in the total integrated power module (TIPM). The recommended solution is to install a kit that mounts an external relay for the fuel pump in lieu of the TIPM relay. Chrysler has a star case that defines the process, etc. The star case number is #S1308000399.

Re: 2012 Grand cherokee starting problems

First thing to do is to put a fuel pressure guage on the injector rail. Where it is depends on which engine you have but will just be a schraeder valve and should have a cap on it.

Anything over about 30 psi should start, under 10 probably not.

ps "sometimes it does not even do that." Crank ? If it doesn't you have a different issue.

Yes, best quik fix for out of warranty. If you're still under warranty, I would push for them to change to TIPM. The TIPM is the big black fuse box on the passenger fenderwell. U.S. dealers avg around $1200+ to change it out. The relay kit is much cheaper option, if it's your problem.

Re: 2012 Grand cherokee starting problems

Is Chrysler any closer to issuing a recall on this?
