78K on my early 11' 3.6. Only issues I have experienced were a bad door lock servo, one faulty TPM sensor, leaking front strut, and water trapped between the driver's side lower floorpan. Those are the only hiccups I can remember. Other than the above mentioned, the powertrain has been flawless.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

I purchased a 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L in January 2012. Since then I have had a huge problem with the check engine. The first time the car had a very noticeable failure, it seemed like it was about to turn off. Since then I have had to take it about 10 times because of the check engine light. The Service Department at my Dealer tells me it just needed computer updates. This makes no sense to me. Now recently the gas cap light turned on even though I am 100% sure I closed it correctly. The Check Engine light has usually turned back on not even 24 hours after I have picked it up from service. I don't know a thing about cars and am afraid they are taking advantage about the fact. I am looking for information to see if anyone else has had a problem similar to mine and how they resolved it, or any advice. Thank you

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Only way to know is with an OBD-II code scanner. Codes P030x (x=0-6 for pentatar) indicates misfires. The actual number can be determined by a good scanner. Code meanings can be found on;ine.

If you do not know what all of this means it is best that you take to a mechanic you trust.

That said constantly recurring CEL lights even after taking it in for service usually means that they have not fixed the problem.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

There is a TSB on the check engine/gas cap MIL. Mine started going off multiple times at about 6 months/6000 miles. A trip to the dealer for a flash and I have not had a single issue with either since.

Make sure your dealer has actually been doing the TSB instructions and not "winging it" by just resetting the MIL's. If so, they will just keep coming back. Best luck.

Be interesting to see if the incidence rises with warm weather.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

OK.
I started to have the CEL recently.
MY 2011 has 52800 miles.

Dealer said it was the gas cap but the code thrown was P0304.

It started to happen again but this time the CEL light went on and was blinking and the chime went off.

Turned off the car and pulled over.
Waited a few minutes and started it up. The CEL was on but not blinking.
Took it to the nearest Auto Zone and had them read the code. P0304.

Taking it to the dealer today.
A different dealer told me when I was calling around that 70% of the time it had been cylinder head problem. Especially for a 2011 V6 with similarmiles.

Because there's a tsb and it states to "replace engine", particularly for 2012 v6, does that mean if you are out of warranty - you are still covered?

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Dropped the car off yesterday an received a call today saying I need to have my cylinder heads replaced. They ran several test and it was confirmed it's the CH.

It will be at least 5-7 days before the dealership gets the part and then another 1-2 day doing the work.

The positive out of this is that my warranty will cover 100% of the work and the rental for 1 week.

I rather have this issue now than later when the car is out of warranty.

How many k's has your done? You know it's going to happen so it may as well be sooner than later. I opted for 5 years warranty. But a tsb should still cover when you are out of warranty?
