Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

I have a 2014 GC V-6 with 400 miles. Yesterday, it had an obvious misfire for several minutes. I wasn't sure if the engine would continue to run. MIL light came on. Then, it straightened itself out and ran O.K. If it happens again, off to the dealer it goes.

Unknown. But it was definitely not running on all cylinders.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Mine hit at 26,490 miles this spring. Same issue #2 cylinder, 2 weeks for parts, 2 days in the shop. Only one guy could do the repair. As a first time Chrysler owner, and recipient of a new 730N as well, I am not impressed.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Ok,
Jeep fixed the P0304 problem by replacing the Cylinder heads, less than 1,000k miles ago.

CEl came back on today, Code was P0304 again. WTF???
Cycled through start cycle a dozen times, light did not come back on.
on the 14th start cycle, CEl is back on. P0304 again and the engine started to stumble.

No offense to people here, but what a piece a crap; this is the last time I buy American car.

I have had over 30 cars and only 3 American 2 of them were Jeeps and they had major issues in short time vehicle was owned.

Geez, bad luck. Time to let it go I think and make it someone else's problem.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Sounds like they replaced the head with one of the old ones - is the part number on the invoice ? I would have thought that all would have been pulled by now.

BTW a good OBD-II app like Torque will let you keep track of the misfires even if it doen't set a code. I've been checking mine about monthly and is 0-2 counts.

ps since a 1968 FIAT 124 Spyder, all of my cars have been American makes (though my Pontiac built RV has a BMW engine). I have had very little trouble with any but am fanatical about maintenance and running cool.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Checked with dealer today, the heads were brand new from factory with new batch.
I have the invoice from dealership.

They will be replacing the heads again with another one; min 5 days till the new heads will be here.

Seems like I have had bad lucks with American cars; with the few I have owned.

Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

This sounds like a classic casting defect that is easy to correct for new production once you are aware of it. Does any one know when a design change for the casting was implemented into production?

I agree it is better to happen sooner than later as the size and orientation of the defect can vary some will be early failures and some will be late failures.

Hard to predict if this will affect 5%, 25%, or 85% of engines eventually based on the info posted here.

Sure would be nice to know if and when a design change was implemented to correct this issue.

Thumbs up Re: 2012 Jeep GC 3.6L notorious problem

Update.
Anger and frustration is gone; Jeep dealer made everything right.

Got rid of the 2011, and traded in on a brand new 2014 White Laredo E.

Just got CEL last night on my V6 Laredo Jan 2012 build! Misfire in cylinder number 2 at 25, 670 kms. Been problem free for the past year. Taking her in on Saturday. The rich to lean sensor error has been there for a few months. Mentioned it to the dealer at my 20, 000 kms service. They checked it (?) and said nothing was wrong. That my scanner was registering something that wasn't there. Threw it in there in case someone had an opinion about that.
