Probably wont happen again. As i understand it the problem was a run of bad heads that are covered under warranty. I would think that most of them have been replaced by now since this was early in the production cycle of 2012s IIRC.

Did you have a date range of the builds with the bad batch of heads? Perhaps a range of VIN?

Mines at 34,000 km and I've still got 3.5yrs left of warranty. I do average 25, 000 km per year. My 2012 is a july build.

No but usually in the 15-25k mile range. I suspect it was a machining misalignment of valve guides but have never seen a real answer or range of serial numbers.

Is part of the reason I bought a lifetime service contract since I may not get to even 15k this year.

Might mention that it is very nearly the perfect vehicle for my needs and I like it better now than when I bought it in Jan '12. Have decided to sell my Vixen RV and buy a trailer instead.

Bringing up an old thread instead of starting a new one. My 2012 has a check engine light for cylinder 4 misfire. The jeep has about 60k on it. My question is if i make an appointment will the diagnosis be fully covered under the 5yr 100k warranty? I also got notice from jeep about my Jeep being affected by the cylinder head issue which they extended my warranty to 150k(I think) / 10 years. I just don't want to get into paying for them to tell me what the code is. I already know that from having it read at Autozone.

How did you get 5yr warranty and only 100k?

I paid the CJD maxcare additional up to 200km, for +2yr on top of the standard 3yr.

There is a tsb recall for the cylinder head issue so I would assume we are covered for life?

Mines a 2012 v6 at 76000k, going strong to date.

I didn't pay for any additional warranty. I was referring to the 5yr 100k Powertrain warranty. As far as the cylinder issue I got a letter stating the cylninder head warranty was extended by jeep to 10yr 150K..

Just adding a little fuel to the fire - I have a 2012 GC Laredo 3.6L and ALSO recently had to have my head replaced as well. It was covered under warranty thankfully. Once I got a Check Engine light, I decided to take it in. I had also been receiving numerous recall notices and had gotten a little concerned more specifically with something involving the brakes. I later found out this is mainly an issue in icy weather (not much of that here in Seattle).

For 2012 owners, you should DEFINITELY get everything fixed that is under recall ASAP. Dont let the warranty lapse!

Right now, Im at about 42,500-ish, and this was probably two months ago or so. So I would would guess roughly 40,000 miles. Most others I saw with this issue mentioned it happening sooner. I also found another web page where the VP or CEO or something of Chrysler mentioned that only a very small percentage of GC's would have this issue because it was a very specific combination of the way you drive and "other elements", which he never really said exactly what these were. I think this was a cover-my-ass statement because in the past 4 years owning this thing, Ive lived in three states, (rural GA, Oakland/Bay Area,CA and Seattle now). All have PRETTY different climates and I havent changed my driving other than in San Francisco - gotta move along a bit faster there.

Thanks. I've got almost 60k and have not seen this issue. I use an OBD scanner and the Torque app to check this, and have never seen more than 2 or 3 misfires in the "past 10 drives" statistic Torque displays, which I guess is normal. Plus these are never on the same cylinder or on the problematic cylinders.

I don't think FCA knows what conditions cause these units to fail, but likely most will not have the problem, which is why they did an extended warranty vs a recall.
