I totally hear you on that. Honestly I don't trust dealerships whatsoever. I appreciate your help. I know our model jeeps are the same so I definitely will be looking into getting these parts and then working on it next week when I'm free for the day. Thankful I don't have to saw anything and it's accessible

Those part numbers apply all the way up to the '16 models... so you're good.

The actuator gear has been slightly redesigned since our WK2's were built. They are "beefier" in the stop areas which is where they normally break first. You'll see what I mean when you tear into it. Shouldn't have any issues with the new gear.

It trips me out how they didn't make it better from the start! But that's good to hear. So you had the same problem I am having, switched it out and now controlling both sides with air?

how long did it take you? Hour?

Mine was driver side. Took about 2 hours 15 minutes. Exact same problem you're having.

Thank you. Whew so it does take a bit of time! I bought the parts. Gear was $2.49 and actuator was $35.00 as you said. It's going down next week when I get some time - maybe even Sunday.

I hope it just goes smooth and fixes the problem. Crossing fingers

The blower stopping and starting is the AC system informing you that there's a fault. This will occur if the AC control module cannot calibrate one of the blend door actuators. Once fixed... it will work normally again.

Chances are the actuator gear has broken into pieces. The actuator motor may have stripped internal gears when the actuator gear "went". You really need both on hand to do this repair successfully the first time and not have to "dig" into it again.

The gear is Mopar part # 68814880AA. Get one from your dealer for about $2.50

Buy an OEM Mopar actuator motor part # 68079488AB from Ebay for about $35 shipped. DON'T buy the Dorman aftermarket actuator that normally sells for about $10 less! It will not calibrate correctly on its own. The OEM Mopar actuator will!

No hack saw is needed. You are not accessing the blend doors inside the air box. You are replacing the actuator motor and gear mounted to the outside of the air box with two T20 screws.

You are lucky since the passenger side is easier to do than driver side... but both sides can be fixed cheaply. Same part numbers given above apply to driver side also.

If you do not want to tackle it yourself... find a cheap mechanic on Craigslist for $25 to $30 an hour labor.

You can easily have this fixed for around $100 total parts and labor if you do your homework.
All parts bought..... going to be out of town till Saturday afternoon then might do it then. I am looking at the links you referred - hopefully I can do this this weekend saturday evening and sunday and i'll post things up / take pictures or something

Good deal!

Sure beats paying the dealer $1300 for a new air box... Doesn't it!

I heard passenger side is fairly easy. My driver side was acting up and it was pain in the ass to get to it and replace it.
