2012 Spoiler Weather Strip Eaten by Mouse

Hi, I've got a 2012 JGC which has been partly eaten by a pesky mouse ...

At the weekend I put some blankets, that had been stored in a log shed, in the boot. A field mouse that had been blissfully asleep in amongst the blankets suddenly woke up and scurried off to the back seats and I thought it had then left the car through the opened passenger door. I was wrong. It hadn't done that. Later that night, at silly-o'clock in the morning the car alarm went off. I then realised it was still in the car, and very quickly appreciated that this was not good. Mouse = rodent = chewed up upholstery, electrics, etc. So, I put a mouse-trap in the car, turned off the alarm and left the rear hatch open for the rest of the night. The next day I found that there was no mouse in the trap, so I thought that it might have left the car via the hatch. I decided to check by removing the trim in the boot area. Of course I didn't find this mouse because a) it might have already left, and b) it would have moved itself out of sight as I was dismantling the car. So I then decided to put the car back together and lay more traps that evening, just to be sure. It was as I was just about to close the hatch when I saw the damage to the rear spoiler weather strip (the rubber bit on the front of the spoiler that sort-of fills the gap between the spoiler and the roof). See attached photo showing the hatch open. You can see the gnawed-away rubber. I think the mouse had hid under the rear seats until it was quiet and dark outside. It then must have gone under the trim in the boot area, up into the roof lining near to the radio antenna. Then through the rubber tube containing the cabling for the hatch/spoiler, into the spoiler, then finally out between the spoiler and the upper hatch area (where the rubber tube containing the cables comes out. My work colleagues have helped my find the funny side of this ....

Not so funny when the Jeep garage returned my call about how much it would cost to replace the rubber strip. Apparantly you can't buy it on its own. You have to buy the entire spoiler, and then have it painted to match the rest of the car. 530 GBP!!!!!!!!!! So, my question to the community is, does anybody know where I can obtain this rubber weather strip from, or a contact at Jeep who would be able to help me acquire it from either Jeep themselves or from their suppliers? My dealership have not been very helpful with this matter. Also, does anybody know why this strip is fitted? It doesn't actually provide a seal with the body. There's a gap of about 5mm (maybe that's Jeep quality again ... let's just stir up that hornet's nest ...)

Thanks

Chris

Or, search your local junk yards for wrecked jeeps. Bound to be one or two that you could part out.

Good idea about the scrap yards, although in the UK these WK2 jeeps are as rare as rocking-horse crap!

If any of you fellow jeep enthusiasts happens to know of a scrapped 2012 jeep and is willing to get the seal for me I'd be more than delighted to pay you for it and a little extra for your time!
