2012 V6 Sound

I've owned a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo v6 for over a year now. The engine seems likes its running pretty loud lately. It's very noticeable when the windows are down and when I drive by a wall or a parking garage, the sound really echoes. The sound is like a ticking noise coming from under the jeep and on the drivers side. I have a video posted to show you what I'm hearing. I'm wondering if this is what the Pentastar should sound like or if it is louder than it should be.

Re: 2012 V6 Sound

A good scan tool should be able to check for misfires (part of test 06). Check for cyl 2, 4, & 6 particularly.

My first thought is the Pentastar head issue. Before the CEL came on I had elevated misfires for a few months. If so there is an extended warrenty for it.

Note: the CEL must be on before the dealer will run the necessary leakdown test. If over 25% they will replace the head but you may be in the first stages.

Re: 2012 V6 Sound

Ill be honest, based on my ears, my computer speakers, that sounded 100% normal to me. I heard absolutely no difference between passenger side and drivers side or when you put the camera down on the ground below the vehicle on the drivers side.
I used to have a 2012 Overland V6 and sounded just like it.

Re: 2012 V6 Sound

Agreed. Doesn't sound different than my 12. Ticking and all. Sounds normal.
