VERY ANGRY AND DISSAPOINTED MY LIMITED WK2 presented a weird metallic noise only when cold, dealer head mechanic and service manager opened warranty case with chrysler... So far engine dissasembly and removed from engine bay.... Not happy at all
So far they claim only valve lifter and lifter rods show "quality concerns" and the water pump front seal is damaged
Tomorrow lower pan to be removed so piston and rods can be inspected....

Only 16600 kms
No engine light or misfires detected only the damn noise @ cold temperature
It ran fine once hot - normal op temp.

seems that one has replied to my post... here is the resolution (if we can call it that)
Engine Internals - EVERYTHING was replaced
Engne Block was sent out for measurement, finding a .001 out of spec - moved true position of cylinder liners
WARRANTY ENGINE BLOCK-ENGINE REPLACEMENT NOT APPROVED BY WARRANTY
ALL ENGINE INTERNALS REPLACED - oil pump, water pump and everything was replaced
DEALER CHIEF MECHANIC A GOOD FRIEND AND LET ME FOLLOW UP ON THE REPAIR ... ALL SEEMED TO BE OK DURING RE-ASSEMBLY ... a few plastic loops missing here and there, but overall RE-ASSEMBLY & RE-INSTALL WAS COMPLETED

SADLY - COLD CONDITIION NOISE RETURNED!!!! ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED

they claim powertrain warranty is in effect - so whatever happens they will replace sooner or later...

WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUT!!!!

JEEP WK2 GC WILL BE MY LAST JEEP UNLESS I GET MY ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED OR WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE DAMN NOISE

Penta-SCRAP engine not an option for me!

A thousandth out of spec ? Which spec ? I had an engine line bored once and somehow they got the center main .003" out of alignment - every time it dropped under 30F it would start in the morning, run for 30 seconds, and freeze. Was on third rebuild when they found the misalignment.

Am surprised they didn't just replace the short block, maybe they didn't have any extras.

What kind of noise ? A "tink, tink tink,..." ? At engine speed or valvetrain speed ?
