I totally forgot to respond to this....to answer your question, it happens 100% of the time with the paddle shifters, as long as I upshift from 1st to 2nd gear with my foot off the gas pedal completely. If I'm giving it even a little bit of gas at the time that I upshift, it's smooth as butter.

Re: 2014/2015 V6 transmission issue

I'll be dropping my 2014 V6 Overland 4x4 at a new dealership to have the TSB 21-012-14 TRANSMISSION SHIFT ENHANCEMENT done.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I've been experiencing rough downshifts from 2nd to 1st coming to a full stop from a crawl (driving in stop n' go traffic sucks big time). Mostly happens when the transmission is not fully warmed-up. All this started happening at about 5,000 miles, I'm now at 7,400 miles, and it's still happening.

Re: 2014/2015 V6 transmission issue

Msca, mine did exactly what yours is doing. The relearn did not fix it. They put a new valve body in. Details in the "I think I fixed my rough shifting 8 speed" thread. So far, after 2000 miles, still shifting smooth with one exception, the 2nd to 1st at a stop will give you a jolt. I'm done messing with this thing for now. I will wait for a few more software fixes before going back to the dealer again.

Mine is going in this Friday. I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not too confident based upon what I read on the forum.

So the relearn didn't fix yours. Then you got a new valve body and that apparently didn't fix it either...or didn't completely fix it at least.....great. So what next? Just wait and hope that the next flash update does the trick? This is why I waited for 2015, hoping that the 1st year issues would be smoothed out by the time 2015 models started coming out.

Re: 2014/2015 V6 transmission issue

The valve body replacement made a night and day improvement. One out ten stops will give the rough downshift to first, otherwise all other shifts are smooth or firm depending on right pedal force. Good luck with the dealer visit. Don't accept the garbage on a 40k+ vehicle.

Well, I guess I'll have to insist on a valve body replacement for my next trip to the dealer. The relearn procedure definitely didn't work for my vehicle, but it did seem to help a bit. I don't get the harsh shift every time now, but probably 75% of the time. I just hope the new valve body does the trick so I can put this issue to bed.

shewstring, I am taking mine back to the garage for the second time in just 2 months but with not even 500km after they replaced the valve. I do not think I can trust this $+50k SUV anymore. This is an expensive gambling device!. I am glad it actually happened yesterday, we were going to go up North in the back country roads to see the autumn colours with our kids. Good luck for those who would like to try their luck. I am done!

Re: 2014/2015 V6 transmission issue

However, what I have noticed lately is a strong transmission fluid smell when towing or on longer highway trips. Fluid temps appear normal for the v6 at 195-202. So, on one hand I like the GC, but on the other, I have zero faith beyond the warranty period that it will stay in one piece.

Re: 2014/2015 V6 transmission issue

Update on the fluid smell. Dealer looked at it last week - could not find any leaks or issues. Explained as likely being fluid that spilled on the exhaust during the valve body replacement. I haven't smelled anything in the past two weeks so I suspect the dealer is correct.

At slow speeds (typically in a parking lot) when the transmission is in 1st gear and upshifts to 2nd gear under zero throttle, I get the harsh shift. If you're wondering how/why the transmission upshifts from 1st to 2nd gear without any throttle, it can happen two different ways. First, coasting down a slight hill will cause the transmission to upshift. Secondly, if I'm on level ground, and I give the engine a bit of gas and then let off right before the transmission shifts, it will result in the harsh shift.

Anyway, here's the question-- does your 2014/2015 V6 transmission do this? I happen to work with a guy who has a 2014 V6 and he told me that both his and his daughter's Grand Cherokees (she also has a 2014) do the same thing. He was told by his local Jeep dealer that it is normal operation and they all do it.

There's a member here on the forum who says that he had the same problem and it was fixed with a TCM relearn procedure, so I have a hard time believing that this is normal for the V6 transmission. Can you guys check to see if your Grand Cherokee does this harsh shift and let me know? It might be difficult to make it happen, but a little slow speed driving/coasting in an open parking lot should eventually make it happen.
Sorry, your not allowed to complain or post negative things about the WK2 here. Only good positive things.
Thank you
