2014 3.6 8 speed transmission fluid change

Hello, I know this is lifetime fluid and I know there are arguments for and against changing so I don't mean to open that can of worms......but I want to change the fluid and filter at about 75K which I am rapidly approaching. I drive about 30K/year on business, and tow a boat in the summer, and usually keep a car to 200K+. Can anyone tell me how? The local quick change place I trust and like say they aren't allowed to touch any make without a dipstick. Two dealers tell me there is NO procedure to changing the fluid or filter and they cannot do it. I have done fluid and filter changes on my two "filled for life" Mercedes with no dipstick and it went fine, so I'm willing to get underneath and do it myself if I can get pointers. Thanks in advance!

The shop manual for the GC will give you a step by step on it. From what I see making sure to get the correct amount back in is what to take care on. The filter is integrated into the pan so you are replacing the whole pan to change the filter. Pan runs around $250 and fluid is around $40 per quart so it's an expensive change, probably over $600 in parts/fluid alone. Drain fluid, drop and replace the pan and follow the procedure to get the correct amount back in. Someone on here can probably tell you better or give a short cut for getting the right amount of fluid in, shop manual version has several steps, involving checking fluid temps and spinning the wheels off the ground which you probably won't be doing in your driveway. Let us know how it goes, I don't tow so will probably push my change to 100k. Past cars I did it at 30k but not this one.

Re: 2014 3.6 8 speed transmission fluid change

Thank you, that's helpful to know. Sounds like this will be similar to the ZF 6 speed in my wife's Land Rover, which has the same integrated pan/filter. It also has a fill hole on the side of the transmission and you just fill until it runs back out......drive a while, get it hot and recheck the level. Is the shop manual you speak of on this site somewhere for reading/review?
