2014 build quality

Maybe I'm just nitpicky, but I feel like the overall build quality for our 2014 overland seems a bit substandard.

- I've got the same shifting tranny issues many other v6 owners are experiencing. In addition, the thing feels like it is driving in quicksand out of the gate.

- at 4k miles, I now have 3 separate rattles at speeds over 30 mph. Left rear view blinker, rear cargo entry and somewhere on left panel.

- do the doors grind when opening and closing for anyone else? Feels like steel on steel with no oil.

Again, maybe I'm just used to the exceptionally high standards of my chevy Tahoe (lol), but these seem like issues a 50k ride shouldn't have.

2014 build quality

I will say fit and finish could be better from the factory and I really want my tranny to be smooth shifting up/down with a highway ride that's vibration free.

+1

You're not nitpicky. 50k is a lot to spend on a vehicle and you have every right to be annoyed by clinks, clanks and clunks that shouldn't exist.

Schedule an appointment with service and see if they can take care of these things. If they can't find your rattles or fix the issues, send it back. Sometimes you need to try another dealer if possible.

Other than these issues, how you liking it so far?

Re: 2014 build quality

We love the exterior look and were initially sold on all the bells and whistles, especially when comparing against our other finalist, the limited 4Runner.

My wife had a 4Runner previously, and it was a fantastic SUV. sturdy, reliable, etc. I let her make the decision this time too, and she opted for the jeep.

I'm now on the fence and could probably trade straight across for a new limited 4runner, even though our jeep has 4k miles.

No idea what we are going to do...

The Jeep's looks are just awesome - and bang for buck seemed to be there for me as well. My wife wanted the Ford but the Altitude 4x4 looks a million times nicer and sportier.

The Toyota 4Runner is a solid SUV man but just don't give up on the Jeep just yet..

Re: 2014 build quality

I'll definitely take it in to have all the rattles looked at.

I'm really more worried about how the tranny behaves. And I completely realize this isn't my v8 5.4L gas guzzling Tahoe, but is there anything you can do to make this thing not sound like a go cart out of the gate?

Maybe I should have got the v8...but I already have one vehicle that sucks down the gas.

Re: 2014 build quality

I have just resided the fact that YES I love my 2014 SRT and enough to fix any niggling issues myself...I know what you mean about the doors Im going to have a good look at mine and see If I can make them smoother and feel a little better..NO you should not have to do these things but I like the car enough for other reasons to be prepared to make the little issues butter myself.

I've got the ecodiesel (500kms), no tranny issues so far, no rattles, and yes the doors do grind. Also one of the rear doors isn't aligned well, sits out a bit. The window rubbers are all hanging out....

I get the impression the factory is pumping these things out as quick as they can.

Still a great drive.

Re: 2014 build quality

I think the factory is operating at max capacity but that is no excuse for the very poor assembly quality of these vehicles. Honda's making hundreds of thousands of Accords and manages to generally produce reliable, high fit and finish cars.

The CV boot failure that I have on my new JGC and the way Jeep is handling it is complete bull***t.

For 50k, I would expect them to have these bases covered like other luxury brands.

Re: 2014 build quality

I have good friend that work for other luxury brands and trust me thinking they are any better or less troubled than a jeep is not right. My good mate is a BMW specialist technician and he feeds me all the horror story's daily. I think cars are so high tech nowadays problems are just to be expected.

You've been reading my book.

My wife and I had an incredible Toyota previously (165,000 completely problem free miles). We came within an inch of getting a 4Runner but opted for the Summit V6. So far, all is well and we are not experiencing any of the problems reported here with the exception of a warning light that has recently showed up - the service tech says it's no problem/ok to drive and they will fix next tues.

Sincerely hope your family and mine made the right choice. Time will tell.
