Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Even though I had a build date of 6/14 which had a pretty uptodate TCM, i had this flash done over the weekend and it shifts even smoother now. Sport mode is actually pretty fun (considering i'm in a 5k 4x4). Really happy with the Jeep. now if I could only figure out a way to get closer to 30MPG on the highway this would be perfect. After the flash I did a 400mi road trip which consisted of 90% highway and yet only averaged 25MPG. How are you guys getting 30+ doing it?

You need to see your dealer if you aren't getting 30mpg+ on flat ground at 65 mph with no headwind. Should be closer to 32mpg. Also, make sure you have 38 psi in the tires. Low tire pressure on a 5300 lb vehicle with 265mm width tires will create a lot of drag!

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Dealer said if there were a problem, a cel would come up. Also said that during break in the ecu is under another program and after a few k miles that I should see better mileage. Not sure how true that is. I'm already at 2300 miles. Tires are at 38psi all around. I've been driving with cruise and like a granny on the freeways just to see if I could get an average of 30+, but it's just not happening.

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Are you resetting your tripmeter when you hit the highway? The tripmeters use a 300 mile rolling average. If you drive mostly city, idle alot, or drive agressively....then hit the highway, the MPG will slowly rise. A tripmeter reset on the highway will clear the average and start over.

It is true that mileage improves as the engine breaks in, which takes place over 5 to 10k miles or more. Even still, I recall getting 28 MPG at 65 mph in mild hills at delivery...but it had 6 miles on it and no city driving to average in.

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Yeah, I reset the mpg and trip meters before my last road trip. Los Angeles to San Diego and back. My meter is at 23.8 right now because do some city driving, but on the drive back up it was at 25.2 mpg, nothing to write home about. Factor in 5% for the larger tires and those numbers go up to 25 and 26.5 respectively, but still low compared to what others are getting.

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Had mine (March 2014) at the dealer.

Reset adaptive memory: Much better shifting now, I guess we'll see for how long...

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

Been over a week now with the TSB on. Took an 8 hour trip to Jersey and back as well as doing my normal 30 mile round trip commute after Labor Day.

It's the real deal. Plan on seeing your dealer to get it done. This is how our SFUs should have come from the factory.

No more hesitation, nice smooth torque from the get go.

What are dealers charging to perform this TSB? Or should I expect them to do it for no charge?

its warranty work but you need to tell them your transmission downshifts rough or there is no reason to apply the TSB.

Re: 2014 CRD + 8-speed: MAJOR shift enhancements/improvements 08/27/14

I have a 2014 G.C. Limited v6, 8speed, while acceleration getting on highway (regular driving) it would lock up in a gear and the complete truck would become unresponsive (no throttle , no up or down shifting,) felt like a limp mode !!!
This happened 2 or three times in 6 months of ownership. this can be a VERY DANGEROUS .... IF I PULL OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND A SEMI TRUCK IS BEHIND ME I AM DEAD..... GUYS ANYONE HAVE THIS ??? OR SHOULD I OPEN ANOTHER POST..
haven’t brought it to the dealer yet because it only last for about 7-8 seconds.. and no check engine light.
To clarify i pull onto the highway attempt to accelerate normally and the whole truck goes LIMP! (drive in regular mode, with eco on)
Thanks
btw my truck is a 3/14 production date . 6,000 MILES
I get 17.5-19 city with traffic and 20-24 highway. my driving is alot of mixed city and highway.
seems like these trucks get best mpg at 73-80 mph the sweet spot (28mpg)
38 psi in tires.
