Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

Add me to the growing list of defective fuel doors. Nothing like trying for 25 minutes to open the fuel door at the BJ's gas line a mile long with the car already running on fumes. No amount of button pushing and trying to pry the door open would get the latch to open. So frustrating.....

Dealer appeared to replace the entire internal assembly and reattach the door to the new assembly.

Did you try removing the small bin on the l/h side of the rear compartment?

Once removed you'll find a braided wire loop, just pull it and the door should open.

You can add me to the growing list of 2014 Grand Cherokee fuel doors that don't seal anymore...

Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

I've had my fuel door assembly replaced two times now and it's still screwed up. They take off the rear wheel and iner fender and go through there. Now they say live with it. They are aware of the problem but no fix right now.

From day one on the door was not centred and now it seems to be coming apart. The plastic lid is not pressing against the rubber seal and is not flush with the body panel.

One of the many small but annoying fit and finish things on the 14's such as fender flares lifting off on front edge on Summits/SRT's, window mouldings boogered/folded, mis-aligned door panels/lift gates, nicked rims from factory tire mounting, broken interior panel tabs causing misalignments, etc.. ALL are 100% covered under your 3yr/36k bumper to bumper. I suggest you collect them up and give it to them for a week.

Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

Is that what one simply has to accept when buying domestic?
I'm beginning to wonder.

Go look at the new low end Mercedes CLA sedan...I know apples/oranges....its a Yugo with a merc emblem on it. That said, my answer is no. They are really addressing the fit and finish with the MY15. I spent an hour ppouring over a 15 Summit California Ed and it is really tight versus my 14 Summit. They are even installing a brand new paint system at JNAP, etc...

That's good to know, I'm in no rush, sure the dealer wants to sell another vehicle one day; for this to remotely happen the fuel door needs to seal and I'm sure it eventually will

Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

It doesn't seal on any flush fitting fuel doors.

I can't confirm that.
My dealer changed the complete mechanism incl. painted fuel door today and the fuel door now sits absolutely flush but not centered, the sealing function of the door also works 100% now, before after a car wash the inside behind the door was all flooded, not anymore.
So far so good.
