2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

Am I the only one not liking the 2014 fuel door?
From day one on the door was not centred and now it seems to be coming apart. The plastic lid is not pressing against the rubber seal and is not flush with the body panel.

Presumably it would be under warranty... yours actually looks better than some of the pictures of the fuel door you might find floating around here.

Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

About 25,000 miles on my '14 GC Summit. Last few fill-ups when I push the fuel door release button it may or may not open the fuel door. After multiple button pushes it finally opens. Checked the fuel door assembly this afternoon and it appears that the hinge is broken/sagging and the flat spring that pops the door open has lost its tension. Making an appointment to bring it in for warranty repair on Monday.

Not the same problem that you seem to be having (appears from video that external fuel door has come loose from the hinge frame), but may be related to overall (poor) design of this assembly.

Mine doesn't seal fully around the top of the door. Gonna see if I can get it replaced.

mine's the same way...separating at the left side from frame as yours, albeit not quite as bad. bod is 06/14 i'm thinking this is pretty widespread. poorly engineered if you ask me.

Self sealing fule caps or capless fule caps
Are made for stupid people, lazy people who can't undoo the cap and remeber to replace after buying fuel.

Either plain lazy or just stupid.

Totally agree, very poor design but that's what happens if every cent counts and it does.
I'd rather pay $2 more for something real. Probably most people wouldn't even notice, I do...

In fact it is most likely cheaper to put a cap on it rather then design and develop a capless system. This is just an example of car companies pandering and dumming down to drivers who should not be allowed to drive.

Agree, the capless system is probably more expensive, I don't mind not having a cap, I actually like that part.
What bothers me is that cheap plastic door, everytime I touch the door I'm afraid it will break ;-)

I'd say the real reason is to make "Female Friendly". No need to dirty hands trying to twist off the cap.

I've only filled mine twice now but found I need to turn the nozzle to the side to make it fill without shutting off.

Re: 2014 fuel door not flush and not sealing

I know it's not something common, and surely not why they have a capless fuel filler, but my wife has basal joint arthritis, and she hasn't been able to twist off a gas cap for years. She can finally fill her tank up without getting someone to twist off the gas cap for her. For us it's a small miracle. (By the way, she's neither stupid or lazy. She's 68 years old and owns her own business which requires her to spend a lot of time in her vehicle.)
