I am new to the Jeep community and unfortunately have to make a post regarding a check engine light. On this past Saturday I started my car at 7am and noticed a CEL. Luckily the dealership that I Leased the Jeep at was open at 7:30. I arrive and let the service department know that the light is on and also that the car felt sluggish almost like it was misfiring. He said that this is very common on the 2014 GC and are having to repair the same issue about 5 times a week. He said that he would go for a reset as this would correct the issue and never come back about 40% of the time. If it does come back to call and will schedule a day to have the issue resolved. Well I just started my car tonight about 30 min ago and the CEL is back and car is sluggish again. Looks like i'll be calling them in the am. Has anyone heard of this supposed common problem? I searched the site and do not seem to see this issue with anyone else, which makes me a little nervous.
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
8,100 miles
3 Year Lease (March 2013)
They mail the service sheet after service. So since it was just there on Saturday and with the holiday on Monday, I will probably get it Thursday or Friday. Now that light is back on it will be going back.
I just ran the code and found P0456 Evap emissions control system leak very small. I checked the TSB and found TSB#18-034-13 on 8/15/13 Flash: MIL illumination P0456-evap system small leak (3.6l. 5.7l).
I'm wondering if they performed that update on Saturday 8/31/13 and if they did why the light would come back on

I'm confused... You said in your first post it was a misfire and then in this last one a code for an Evap leak? If he said they are doing 5 a week it sounds like they might have been referring to the heads on 11 and 12 models, but that has nothing to do with your issue on a 14.
I'm just as confused but he did mention something about the heads but not sure as to why he would have said that since I have a 14. I ran the code myself this time and found the evap code. Maybe he was confused on what car I was describing because it was very busy at the time.
Would this evap code cause power loss though?
It's all under warranty so only thing it's causing me is time, but would like to know it is in fact common and that I didn't receive a lemon

I am aware of the TSB but I would hardly call it "Common" and sure he is doing 5 a week if he is servicing over 100 2014 JGCs per week!.
It is a programming update and never did the instructions include a simple reset first. The TSB says that if the condition is reported to load the new PCM software.... TMK this is a False Positive situation as it applies to both the V6 and V8.
So to relieve you of any other worry, I don't think this is "Lemon" territory but rather just a simple programming issue. Just disappointing you needed to go back multiple times when the TSB says to just reprogram.
If each customer has to come back multiple times, and they count each visit to come up with 5 a week ... maybe they are being honest. Fuzzy math and all that.

That gives all new meaning to a "make work project" considering they won't get paid on the reset light claims if they keep doing that AND it takes only 2 or 3 minutes longer to do the actual proper repair.
So Saturday they did the update and a reflash. Today they did a radio update and smoke test which determined that I had a didnt have a leak at all and just a bad esim switch. They replaced the switch and vapor seal and it corrected the MIL and my power was restored.
I'd like to say thanks to all the responses and help. I really appreciate it

So not even a month goes by and guess what??? I get a P0456 code again. I call the service department and give them the info and that I also need an oil change and a 6 month vehicle inspection. I take my Jeep there on 10/2 and they perform the inspection/oil change and an TSB update that the lady says will cause it to come on. I went on to tell her that the TSB update was for something totally different and thats only going to reset the current code and a temp fix, since nothing was done to the p0456 code. She says it shouldn't come back and I told her if it does, which i'm expecting it to.
Well last night I am driving and low and behold the CEL comes back on. I'm furious at this point. I get to my destination and see if it is the same code and now its the P0455. Large leak detected in the EVAP system. So im assuming that the small leak that it was 4 days ago has turned into the Large leak code.
Of course the service dept. isn't open on Sundays so will have to wait for Monday to have this issue addressed once again. (I really want out of my lease) This dealership seems to take shortcuts by resetting codes for a temp fix to make customer happy, instead of just fixing the problem. Not only is it a pain to keep having to drive 30 min out of the way but thats gas/mileage on my lease that I do not want to keep adding.
Could be caused by a loose or improperly fitting gas cap. Since the '14 is "different", I'd check the sealing area for an obstruction that might prevent it from closing properly.
I was getting plagued by that.
Went through 4 factory gas caps. Last one started popping loose 2 weeks after I bought it. Cheap plastic junk.
Finally found an after market that actually fits and seals.
WD40 sprayed on inner cap and threads of nozzle sometimes helped.
I dropped it off this morning and they found a small crack in the filler tube which opens up and creates the large leak code when given gas. They need to keep it overnight and will be ready tomorrow morning. All covered under warranty.
917 miles on my 2014 Jeep GC.
Same problem .
3 times in the last 3 days that the CEL came on. The dealer resets the light but that did not stop the issue.
Its at the dealer again.
I have a 2014 grand cherokee 3.6 v6 with 50000 miles and theres a code for cylinder 4 misfire. I changed the spark plug and coil but its still misfiring
Did you ever get this resolved? Having the same issue on 2014 V6 with 80,000+ miles. Cylinder 4 misfire. Was hoping a plug and coil change would fix it.
