Re: 2014 GC Limited Backing Up Steep Hill

Just how steep is this? yep, I would love to see some video. Also, can you test drive or find another 2014 Jeep to try the hill? Would like to see if it is all 2014 V6 vehicles or if it is just yours.

I was gonna say the same thing, but more just so we could see what is happening (and not just to flame Jeep on YouTube).

I agree. I don't believe it is a power problem it's a power transfer problem. I should mention too that unlike most AT's I have ever driven this one barely moves forward when in gear and you take your foot off the brake. I will be taking it back to the dealer and ask them to give it a thorough check of the drive train.

Re: 2014 GC Limited Backing Up Steep Hill

I wonder if it's a defect with hill ascent control? Like if the Jeep is confused by being in reverse on a steep incline? Just a guess.

That's a good point, and easily tested. It can be turned off in the evic.

It is possible that this is true with the ZF as well. Why else would torque limiting occur?

Not worried about stressing the tranny. The ZF is good for 330 ft-lbs and its a very short trip only about 35-40ft.

First thing I did was diable the hill holder function thinking that was interfering somehow. Same results. Hill decent can only be turned on in low range. Good thought though

The hill is about 30deg, maybe more, hard to tell but short only about 40 ft. I will post some photo and maybe video this weekend.

Its under warranty. Drive it like you stole it!

Remember trannies are rated at the input shaft and a torque converter under high slip multiples engine torque up to 2 times!

The Powerstroke guys thought the 4R100, which is rated at 1000 ft-lb, was good until they backed up a hill under high loading. The tranny had a defect in reverse which was corrected. Let's hope Chrysler has a CPU bug not a known physical limitation!

Re: 2014 GC Limited Backing Up Steep Hill

I know I drove my car on a steep, rocky Wyoming trail in ECO mode and 4-HI and it had no issues. I definitely do not consider this a torque / horsepower issue with the V6. this is a software / firmware issue or a mechanical failure with the tranny, not representive of the model. A video though would be helpful.

Thanks for the info I did not think about the multiplying effect of the torque converter
