I agree ... including trying Flitz. The stuff is pretty amazing.

The fact that it is all over your Jeep, and unless other Jeep owners in your area are seeing the same thing, I think the dealer will say you got something on your car. Maybe the local car wash used something your Jeep doesn't like.

That said, before you do anything else, give the dealer a shot at it.

Good Luck.

Thank you both! I'll stop by the dealer tomorrow since I'll be over that way in the morning anyway. And I'll pick up some Flitz. I've never had this issue on any of the chrome on my cars, so I didn't know about it.

CarPro Iron X Iron Remover will take that right off. My 2011 had the same. Just follow the directions and those marks will wipe right off.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

Hey,

I live in Colorado (Denver) and I have the same issue with my overland. Always garage kept and well maintained. My chrome looks worse than yours though actually. I had a Lexus with chrome and never had that problem at all. Then again, my chrome paneling is not straight or tightly sealed. It looks like it is coming off the vehicle (no admission from Chrysler that its not installed properly).

Good luck trying to get the dealership (any of them) to do anything or admit anything! Chrysler/Jeep is pathetic! I just posted (although not sure its showing yet) a thread detailing my issues and what the response has been from the dealerships/corporate (area manager). They don't care once you have the vehicle. They will lie their teeth off to get you into the vehicle and then lie their teeth off and circle jerk you to keep you in it.

The only way out is with a lawyer I suspect. I can't tell you how defeated I feel and how much hate I have after dealing with Chrysler/Jeep to include the dealerships.

Matt

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

I'm so sorry you're having issues with your jeep and the dealerships here. My chrome looked worse, but I had it detailed and that made it a little better. This is my fifth GC and I've never had an issue like this with them before. There's more chrome on this one than my older ones, though.

I live in Centennial. I called Centennial Chrysler Jeep today and asked them what I could do about the chrome, and they told me to come by and see the service manager to see if it can be covered by the warranty. I don't expect anything to come of it, but I'll bring it by anyway.

The chrome trim on my back step is a bit loose, but that seems to be the only installation issue. And I don't know if it's an actual issue or if that's just the way they all are.

I've been lucky and this is my only issue so far, so I'm still happy with my GC. If I can't get the oxidation off, I may have all the trim blacked out by a body shop. Since my GC is granite, I think it would look awesome. There're too many of them on the road that look like mine now anyway. Heh.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

Hey,

Yeah I am having a lot of problems and Centennial Chrysler is who sold the vehicle and is causing the problems in terms of service. You'll find there that they will lie and say they do the same work on the warranty requests, but as I was told by the service area manager that that isn't true. They aren't compensated the same. Dave Green, the new service manager (Jim Burris was a joke and did absolutely nothing: something admitted by the GM Steve Baer) doesn't care either. He had my vehicle for over a week and put 120 joy riding miles on it and never once duplicated any of the issues we have every single day. Plus we offered multiple times to do a ride along with him if he was having issues with duplication, and he never allowed us the opportunity. Not to mention their overall customer service dealership wide (from secretary to GM) is pathetic. Before we dealt with "Dave" Chris was our service tech and every time we brought the vehicle in with the list of problems, he complained about having to type them into the computer and gave an attitude the whole time. All the other dealerships in the area are either the same or worse. I am glad you are not having this issue, because I am to the point of just something.... There are no words to describe how we have been treated and are continuing to be treated.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

I had a 2012 Overland and also live in the Denver area. My Overland was doing this same thing. Dealer told me it was not a warranty problem and it was from the Mag Cloride on the roads. But I call BS on that because I know chloride will damage cars and I am very good about cleaning it off within 24 hours.

This is just one of about 50 reasons I no longer own the Overland. Funny thing is my Honda has chrome on the front and rear but it shows NONE of this.

These Jeeps cost $50K. It should use better plastics / chrome pieces to last . This vehicle is touted as being able to take the elements.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

I agree. That it happened so quickly, even after always being washed off, is what really annoyed me. I didn't bother taking it in because I'm sure they won't do anything about it.

The Flitz Polish got most of it off, though. There are still some yellowish discolored spots in places, especially on the back step, but it's SOOO much better than it was. The front grill looks brand new again and so do the mirror caps. The two hooks have a few yellowish patches, but they look almost new as well. I used the liquid instead of the paste, and I'm not sure if the paste would have worked better. I'll get some and try it and see.

It looks well enough now that I can live with it, though it still bums me out a bit that it has oxidation marks on it at all so soon.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

I also live in the Denver area and make a lot of trips to the mtns. The only part of my chrome that looks like this is the trim around the grill. The rest is still perfect. I hand wash it when I get home every time too. My mirror covers etc are still fine. April build with 11,000 miles. Ltd.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Tarnished Chrome

Is the "Tarnish" on all forward chrome? I mean chrome facing forward. Looks like stone chips or "road rash" to me. Especially on the mirrors. If the chrome is pitted or damage on the tailgate I would say there is a problem. If not it looks like road rash.

I would be very care full using Flitz on any of the "Chrome" on a GC. That's a metal polish, most if not all of the chrome on GC is plastic.
