I was supposed to pick up the vehicle on a Monday and when i called to make sure we were still on necause i hadn't heard from them, I was told they were having trouble finding the car and were "scrambling." They said my color was hard to get but I could take the Max Steel one they had. They said there were only a couple Granite in the area and no one would swap. I said I knew of a few dealerships with the exact color and model I wanted. They said to forward that info, so when I looked on the Jeep site, I found like seven dealers within 30 miles that had the exact vehicle I wanted - options and everything. By the end of the day after I had forwarded this, they said I could have their Max Steel or I was welcome to have my deposit back.

When they couldn't get the car, I took the deal I had negotiated to Town & Country in Levittown. I sat down with Manny, who was great, and had a deal done in 30 minutes. F & I wasn't a hard sell, which I appreciated. It was an ideal sale experience.

I gave East Hills a week to refund my deposit. Ann eventually said she was working on it. I called Amex and asked if they knew if East Hills had initiated a refund. They said no, and the rep laughed when I mentioned they were working on it. He was like, "oh, they need to have meetings on this I guess?" Needless to say, I still don't have my $500 but I will in a few more days.

Again, I do not blame Town & Country after all this has gone on. The only thing I can find fault with is that I don't think they took me seriously when I first brought the Jeep in. Thanks to Padgett and others here, I knew what I was dealing with. The dealer rep assured me they checked for loose grounds when I asked how a failed ABS module could kill the entire vehicle. I should have been more vigilant. But it took the second "dead in the road" incident to get their attention, and by that point I think it was too late.

Peggy in particular at service is just an angel. She was very sweet to me and my wife and I know she feels terrible about this. They all do.

I hope they have learned something from this. I won't be taking my next vehicle there, but not because of anyone there. I want a dealer that I perceive has a little more clout with Chrysler (West bury has quite a service operation), or one that is closer to me (Browns, which is a couple miles away and would be much more convenient for us if - shudder - something like this happens again.
I would never go to the East Hills dealership for a few reasons unless i had no other alternative as in i work in the area and if my car needs service i can drop it off in the morning and pick it up at the end of my tour.
Very very shady dealer. Ive seen a lot of issues with them.

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

O also, i bought my previous Jeep from Port Jeff Jeep. I live near there. Not the greatest prices but on my 09 i got a really good deal because they really needed to get it off the lot when the 11s came out.
I probably would have bought my 14 at Westbury but i jumped on that DC metro buy for 7% under invoice. Lets just say when i brought the opportunity to the East Hills dealership, they basically told me to get my deposit back because its a scam and no way its real (mind u im a Police Officer in uniform when they were saying this and assured them i am not being scammed). They also said i should get my deposit down by calling my bank and stopping payment to the DC dealer so they obviously know how to get and give deposits back lol

Hahaha... Classic. We dropped by Port Jeff and liked the salesman we talked to, but when we checked the dealerrater and BBB ratings, looks like there were a lot of angry folks who had been customers so we canceled our test drive with them. Smithhaven has an F with the BBB so that was out too.

Interesting;

I also had a very bad experience at East Hills Jeep and wasted a lot of my time with them when I ordered a 2012 Summit from them. They tried to keep the $1000.00 Jeep rebate claiming they couldn't write it in into a sales contract for an ordered vehicle until that vehicle was in stock. Then when my ordered vehicle arrived, they claimed there was no rebate for it unless it was written into the original sales contract, which of course they had refused to do when I ordered the vehicle in the first place! I also had written into the sales contract to not drill into the front bumper to mount a front license plate bracket and called twice to remind the clueless salesman they day before the vehicle arrived to not drill into the front bumper.... guess what they did as soon as they took delivery of the Summit! Unbelievable incompetence!! WTF!

Told them to have my deposit refund check ready and when I picked it up they had cleverly printed a statement on the back that basically said that once I endorsed the check to deposit it, legally they would be held harmless & I wouldn't be able to sue them for not delivering what they promised and for trying to rip me off $1000.00. Funny how they would have that statement already printed on all their checks...... makes you wonder how many shady deals they write only to have issues later requiring deposit refunds?

I highly recommend any LI shoppers to stay away from this dealership, very shady, dishonest, typical NY new car sales scum!

Eventually purchased my '12 Summit from Port Jeff Jeep at the very end of the month when they seemed much more willing to deal at the price I wanted to pay. Which was a surprise because in the past they were never very competitive price wise when I had attempted to buy new vehicles from them.

Yes that has been my take on both Port Jeff and Smithtown Jeep dealers.... with Smithtown being the absolute worst dealer I have ever tried to buy a car from! Don't even think of going there!!

Yep, three visits, for about 20 days.

In NC, 3 visits for the same problem or 30 days out of service total during the warranty period qualifies for a lemon. What is it where you guys are?

BBB Auto Line - Lemon Laws, Auto Warranties, Complaints and Claims - U.S. BBB

Might want to try to start this up as well... some dealerships certainly pay attention to the BBB ratings, others could care less.

Connecticut has two parts: Within 2 years it is 4 visits for the same issue, or 30 days in the shop total. Within one year, it is 2 visits, for the same potentially serious injury causing issue.

For me, The dealer is claiming several different issues. Bad welding on a catalytic converter. Then fried oxygen sensors. Now this is the first time they are saying maybe grounding/ABS module.

From my point of view, it is three times that while moving, the Jeep stopped being able to accelerate, and then had issues from there.

That is absolutely the scariest feeling in the world. I had read an Acadia board where a few people had some issue that caused this and I thought, "holy crap -- while DRIVING? What would I do? What would my wife do if that was her car?" And here we are...

As for the dealerships, MANY MANY thanks for all the info guys!! Good to know that staying away from Smithtown & Port Jeff were both good ideas! And wow - how does a place like East Hills Chrysler Jeep Dodge stay in business with all those shady tactics??

The Amex rep claimed if East Hills agreed that they owed me the $500, the complaint would cancel out and it would be quickly refunded. So Ann actually sent me a mass email last week for a sale East Hills was having and I wrote back, "you really should be ashamed of yourselves -- sending me spam after you refused to refund my money?" She wrote back that they were GOING to refund my money, but I put in a dispute first (yes, this was after a week). She said now Amex is taking it out of their escrow account or something so if they agreed they owed me the $500, I would actually be getting $1000 (refunded twice). Can you believe that BS? So they're "continuing" to fight it until Amex takes the money from them. SO glad they couldn't get the Jeep I wanted!

Jeez, what is up with Jeep dealers? So many bad ones in 10-15 miles?

Now trying to decide between Browns and Westbury Jeep for my next one...

Re: 2014 GC Totally $#@% dead

So I've been following this thread and just have to say that you've been a much more patient man than I would have been about this. I'm at about 700 trouble free miles on mine and I hope that continues. The seeming lack of concern from Chrysler is the thing that blows my mind the most. It just seems very shortsighted of them to drag this out.

On a different topic, I happened to trade in a Q5 for this Jeep and I absolutely loved it. The only reason I traded it in was purely a short term change in my life that made it necessary. I do plan on buying another Audi when my lease is up on the Jeep. To me the interface with the radio became intuitive pretty quickly and it drove far more like a car than a truck. I had no problems in my two years of owning it and was pleased with my service from both my dealership and Audi in general. Although to be fair I've had good experience with my Jeep dealer thus far as well.
